I just bought a Merlin plain edge, thinking it was a Harpy until I read what the handle said. I went to the Spyderco website and saw the 2...basically, is the Merlin just a Harpy with the synthetic handle? Is there some other difference?

Weis,

The blade of the Harpy is slightly thicker, 1/8" cf. 3/32", although they are both ATS-55. Also the Harpy is only avaiable with serrations so if you want a plain edge the Merlin is your only choice. There were some plain edge Harpies made a while back but these are much sort after by collectors.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Ummmm, can you tell the slight difference? I think the G-10 Harpy ROCKS! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

samo I totally agree! I just traded for a G-10 harpy and it has replaced my beloved Cricket as my keychain knife. Man it feels great and cuts like a gleaner on steroids.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm very glad I got he Merlin now since I want a plain edge...I used to always want serrated, but now its only smooth and sharp for me

The Merlin is &quot;tip up&quot; carry vs the &quot;tip down&quot; carry of the Harpy. I'm starting to like carrying the plain-edged Merlin--it seems less threatening to others without the serrations.
