I'm really curious, this has been touched on in different threads, but I've never seen the answer. When we walk out with our Millies, Manix's, Matriarch's, Merlins, and Dodo,s (but to name a few), what is the :spyder: that would most often be found carried by the non- :spyder: holic? Since it's not likely that anyone would take the time to actually do a nationwide poll on the streets, sales would be the next best indicator.
So, what is the best selling :spyder: ; now, and historically (sp?)
This question could easyly be answered by Sal, but how about some guesses/opinions first :D . (Then, Sal, would you please tell us?) :o
I'll start since I posted in another thread already- I think it would be the Endura.
Thanks,
---Tom

I believe the Delica is supposed to be the all-time best seller, but I could be mistaken.

I think it would have to be the Delica! :D Wouldn't surprise me if the Delica also had the most number of variations! Mind boggling!

God bless,

Simon.

I'll buy into that. The Delica is the flagship product.

Delica, Endura, Military, Native. :spyder:

The Military is a top seller, really? I didn't expect such a high-line product to do particularly well commercially, with the S30V steel, linerlock and G10. I figured it was more a knifeknut's and professional's (SaS, military) knife. I'm pleasantly surprised!

I would have to bet on the Delica. I may even go so far as to say the Police as a second :)

I think Jurphaass was just giving his vote. I don't think it's fact.

As for me, I'm thorn between the Delica  and the native (if all three version are added up.

I don't want to Hijack the thread, but how about the "worst" selling one... My guess would the the "Probe" you know, that prying bar for scuba diving!!! ;)

Delica, I believe. And with good reason.

I'll stay with the Delica on this one for the top selling item. The police might be a little big for the average "non knife" person to deal with on a daily basis. I would include the Endura as being a bit large for the same reason.

Did anyone see the "Good Eats" show on Food Network a week or two ago pertaining to garlic? Alton Brown, in the middle of that opening he does, pulled out a FRN Delica to trim off a clove of it. Stuff like that got to be worth selling a few hundred units. And why I brought that up, I don't know. Interesting anyway.

I am going to have to say the delica. My guess is based off the fact that generic stores like Galyans (or Dick's) and REI carried the Delica. Based on that logic, they both carried the Police as well, but I am willing to bet the Delica outsold the Police.

I meant the Police as coming in second maybe? :)

Delica seems a logical choice for top seller, but part of me wonders if the LadyBug might actually win on total number sold.

I think Spyderco posts it on their web site that the Delica is the all time best sellers and the "Clipit on most pockets" or something to that effect.

I have trouble believing the Military is the best selling. It might go in spurts but overall the size and overall foot print of the Delica makes it more accepted by society at large and more accepted in the pockets too for that matter. I know I sure have enjoyed carrying my old Delicas over the years. But now I'm a Para-Mil fan all the way.

Hi all - There is little guess work here. The Delica and the Endura's are the bread and butter knives of Spyderco. These are the vollume models. closely followed by the native and military. One of the best selling products however and always in the top 10 list is the TriAngle Sharpmaker sharpening set.

Because these knives are sooo important to Spyderco, reviving or up-dating them demands a very high degree of R&D and thought. The more popular a model is, the more difficult the decissions on improvements are. You do want to improve the knife but you don't want to loose your market share.
Jurphaas.

PS look for the improved and revived Delica an Endura models at the end of the year!! They will make fantastic stocking fillers...... :D

My guess is the Delica. The Endura a close second but with a 3"+ blade I'm guessing is probably illegal in many areas. Besides, everywhere I've looked where :spyder: 's are sold there always seems to be a Delica on the shelf.

The very most of you picked the Delica... and you are right. :) Why shouldn't it be a best seller, after all? Who dislikes the Delica and why?

I don't watch Alton as regularly as I once did due to time constraints; I missed that episode. I need to get back into a more disciplined regimen of taking in the cooking shows.

Yeah, America is wonderful Doc, they pay you to stay home and watch Oprah!

I should have been more specific.

I was, for practical purposes, self-employed during this time period; I had a bit more time than usual on my hands as I was actually making a living wage for the first time in ten years. Granted, I spent six months or so collecting over a decade worth of unemployment after involuntary loss of my employment with precious little warning.

Just a clarification. :D

Talking about staying home while getting paid... When my wife got pregnant, she was able to stay home until she gives birth (she has a very physical job) and once my little boy was born, she could stay home with him for a whole year. That means she stopped working for a year and 8 months while getting paid to take care of our baby... Now, that is what I'm calling been treated nicelly by our government....

Hum... What was this thread about?!? **confused...***

Hmmm, OK. Half the enjoyment of a thread is seeing different opinions. I've now seen yours, thanks.

I just realized looking at the first page of the 2005 catalog this morning that it says right there the Delica is the all time best selling knife.

I should have read a bit more instead of looking at the pictures and drooling :).
