View Full Version : I think I found my EDC....it's an old fave.

I just traded a fellow BF forumite for an old Delica FRN with integrated clip.
I only have to say that I don't think I could pick between this knife or the Calypso Jr as being the perfect knife for me. It's the right size. It feels great. It looks great to me.
Funny how the Delica has been around for so long and I've tried out many knives but never tried the Delica because it just looked "simple" and ordinary. I guess I'm an ordinary kinda guy :)
Here are some pics of my new old Delica. Oh....what do you think, this knife is.....5-10 years old? Just curious 'cause I don't know.

Fully Serrated is fine for EDC

I also don't see anything wrong with fully SE for EDC. I've been EDC'ing a Centofante II for about five months now and it does everything I need it to do fine and then some.
I've cut little pieces of paper out of magazines and such and I've also cut cords off old television sets.

My Apologies. Not what I was trying to do. I have removed the offending text from my thread. I was simply showing my enthusiasm.

Greetings Brother,
When I first thought about getting a :spyder: I narrowed my choices down to the Delica, Native III/Native, and the Calypso Jr. I now have all except the Delica and that will probably change when the blue sprint run comes out. I can understand you affection towards it because I EDC an Endura which is the same on a larger scale. Good ergos and the blade shape and grind pretty much meet all my needs.
Nice pics. The one with the glare off the blade is a nice effect.
BTW, do you still have the two Caly Jr.'s and just looking for more, or are you deciding to hoard :D ?

I think I'm going to start hoarding Caly Jr's and Delica's. I am now getting the feeling I should have every kind made :)
Got rid of my last Caly Jr. to a buddy who didn't care about the things that were slightly wrong with it. I don't want to get into that either as it brings back bad days ;)
:D I need to get better at the pic taking. It is fun. All my pics were taken by simply putting the knife down on the carpet in a poorly lit room and taking the pictures. The wood is just a nice piece of black walnut that I put on the carpet and set the knife on. :)

Glad you found the Delica.
My experience so far, with knives, is that there is a comfort curve (finding what works best for you). This is how my collection gets built :D .
If you don't mind my saying, I'm guessing much of your Caly Frustraiton stemmed from that paticular model fitting your needs so well. I.E. size, ergos, blade shape. The Delica is very similar except the blade so you should be pleased. Also nice to see you've overcome your aversion to FRN.

David I am really proud of your choice of that older Delica. There is one thing you are overlooking. They now have a Delica with a Carbon Fiber handle and VG-10 blade steel. Refinement Sir :D the Word is refinement. Even the Carbon Fiber Cricket gave me a whole new outlook on boring knives :D

Thanks to all of the replies.
A few additional questions...
1. Are the CF models new now or do I have to search them out because they are no longer made?
2. How old do you figure that knife in my pics is? I don't care 'cause it's still darn good.
And ghostrider, :) Yep......no more aversion to FRN. It's just so light I can't NOT have it. Other stuff now feels too heavy in my pocket :). Such is life right? :D
One thing I almost forgot. I really love the lock WITHOUT the Boye Dent. I think it looks better too :)
God Bless you all.

I've been toting a Delica FRN for a month. Works for me.

I used to carry SE or 50/50 for EDC. But all things changed when I found out that a very well sharpened PE blade cuts as well 95% of what a SE can. As for the remaining 5%, it does not come across may way that often. And a SE can't cut as well as a PE about 50% of the things I cut (peeling a fruit, opening bubblewraped envelopes, food prep...).
But hey, this is just my .02$ ;)
