I am interested in acquiring a ss police, its stamped "police model". Since this is my favorite spydie, started collecting them in 94, I was amazed to see this. Maybe thats not the right word but, never noticed them before. I was wondering how rare are they, what years were they made? I am sure someone who has more knowledge than me will help out. I have seen the "pig" models but never these, please help. P.s. started collecting spydies in 94.

The police model is still commercially available, and one of the flagships of Spyderco, the SS handles are common, while the G10, Tufram and Ti models are rare. The pig name on the knifeblade was discarded because "Pride, Integrety, Guts", P.I.G. was not applicable to every buyer. Then they came out for a while with no name on the blade. Later on it was again labeled as "police". You can find a new police model in every well stocked retailer.
It's rather "strange" that you could miss a knife like the police model, next to the delica and endura it's one of the best selling blades in the past. I have one and i an very please with it, although it is a big knife.
Greetz and welcome to the forum. :)

Don't confuse the newer ones which have the word "Police" actually stamped and embossed into the metal itself. Now the older ones which were made in the late 80s all the way up to about the mid nineties had the word "Police" actully printed on the blade with black lettering. Depending on the condition some of those older ones have gotten a "pretty nickel" on ebay. I also like the Police model. My favorite is the ones with the G-10 handle. :) :spyder:

those stamped "Police Model" came just after the "PIG" which are the rarer...

thank you senate and to those who responded. I think i did not make my first message clear. I own 4 variations of the police model, but the one actually stamped "police model" on the blade I had never seen before. Sorry for the confusion, but my question was answered by senate. Again, thanks for the help and to all who responded.

Hi there
just checked my knives, I have an Aluminiun police with POLICE MODEL on the blade( and one with nothing on the blade), and two stainless knives with blades marked the same. I have asked about this before but np definitive answer was forthcoming. The Aluminium knives wery made after the P.I.G marked ones IIRC.cant help with dates, where is Deacon when you need him.
