Hello,

we have been discusing with mates some time ago if:

Is any spyderco knife an official issue to the u.s. military personel?

If any, I would like to know, even which unit..
I have heard stories that the only military issued knife is the M-1 bayonet, or M-11 I am not sure now and every soldier gets a 50 USD budget from army to buy a knife he wants.

Thanks in advance for the information.
Regards,
J.

No although the "Military" was designed by a request from a "Black Ops" operative for distribution to a Military force. The deal never went thrue because suddenly all communication stopped between Sal and the "unknown guy". Sal decided to make it available to the general public, and it became a bestseller. The Military was so well designed that they use it as a testbed in the :spyder: factory for different bladetypes and handle materials IIRC

I believe the FRN SE Endura is issued to some SEAL Teams. At least that was a consistent and in my opinion credible internet 'fact'.

Those should be pretty cool for the collection if you could find one. I think SEAL and special forces equipment are sterile. Though never being a member of either, I don't know for sure.

many family members of mine go from Marines to humvee drivers in iraq currently. They all use there own knives. they say the **** the Govt gives them is garbadge.

many were into gerber and Buck knives.

i got them into Spyderco.

thanks, that what I expected, soldiers using their own knives. At least they can buy a better one for themselves as the G.I. is.

I also find it insane that they dont undergo tacticle knife training. My uncle's did in marines, in the 70's but not anymore. My cousins amys boyfriend is currently in Mississipi training for deployment. he drives Humvees. He only got bayonette training.

what if you are cought without any firearms. id take a knife over my fists alone.

But what can ya do?

also many knives get taken away if not standard issue. Whole entering camps or returning home, they just have to turn them in. as they think they were bought in loca towns and such in iraq or ahganistan.

I was to Big to join the Marines. even if i lost almost all my fat and was SAkinny I would still be to heavy. To much muscle and a relaly big frame I guess. At least when i went to join the Marines they said no. lol
