View Full Version : Improved Gunting?

Good day, all.

I am attempting to discern the differences between the first-run numbered Spyderco Guntings and the "improved" Guntings released immediately prior to discontinuance. The most obvious difference is the steel, in that the improved Gunting features CPM-S30V rather than CPM-440V. Other than this, what are the "improvements" to the newer Gunting? I recall Bram stating something about differences in the pivot pin, possibly?

I own both models and am just attempting to discover what the improvements were and why they were deemed necessary or desirable. Had it been any other cutlery manufacturer I would have chalked it up to "less expensive to manufacture, lesser quality steel," etc., but being Spyderco I would not even speculate such things.

In a comparison of CPM-S30V and CPM-440V, is there any appreciable difference in tensile strength or corrosion-resistance? I have a very corrosive body chemistry and though I am meticulous in the care of my blades would nevertheless prefer to EDC the less corrosion-prone of the two.

Would anyone care to enlighten me?

My thanks,

Hannibal

No eccentric pin in the S30V version.

The G10 was also made a little grippier.

Hey Doc, I was thinking that an improved Gunting for you would be a hawkbill ;)
