Sal.

I am very impressed with the Salt 1 I have and more specifically the H1 serratted blade. I can honestly say that this blade cuts and keeps it's edge with the best of any other knives in my collection including knives of D2, S30V and other exotics. After using my Salt 1 last evening to literally make short work of cutting through a lower radiator hose on my old 55 International truck I felt it was time to make a few comments and some positive feedback on this wonderful little knife.

About the only thing I'd like to see done different with this H1 series of water and marine use knives by Spyderco is to see them offered with a half serrattion pattern and go one step further and offer it with a half serratted blade where the serrattions were up toward the tip leaving the back plain edge. Kind of like this knife offered by A.G.Russell. http://www.agrussell.com/content/view/full/7576.html

There are many times when this is just flat out better for reaching in deep into a place with little access to make or start a cut and still have the back of the blade PE so you can do more detailed and smaller tasks like just sharpening a pencil for example. But it would be nice to see these Salt and H1 knives offered in all variations you typically see for marine use. I realize the tip serratted thing is mostly a sailor or marine/ocean and boating need for rope and not something needed in any of the other line up of knives.

Why not an option for a Salt of any model in PE, Spyderedge, ComboEdge Tip and CE Back for these marine knives? Just a thought.

One more note. I bought this Salt 1 on the spur of the moment just to buy something with little thought about why. I am as surprised as anyone that it has stolen my heart and become my constant companion. It may have something to do with my upgrade but in truth I was carrying it before I did that to it. Who knew? I figured it would be the Manix, the Chinnook, or the Para-Mil that stole my heart but this Salt 1 beat out all of them in my own needs and uses.
