The Harpy that is for release in October is the most expensive of all the sprint runs. Is this just because of the Carbon Fiber handle? The rest of the knife is just like my G10 Harpy(except for the VG10 blade) I just wanted to know. I will buy the knife anyway. I only hope I will be in time ordering.

Well Spydutch, the earlier CF models were quite pricy as well. The Civilian, IIRC had an MSRP of $225. The Police, I beleive was a few dollars less perhaps $210. Even the Delica was around $190. So, on that basis, I would say yes, the carbon fiber accounts for the price difference.

Thanks, Deacon,
Like I said, I want it very badly so I will buy it anyway. I will start saving money. It will be my third Harpy. I have already contacted my distributer to order one for me when it's there. Don't know what it is; I have something with serrated hawkbills just like you with Kiwi's I suppose.

Senate, I only want the serrated version. This way I am maybe able to buy the Volte and PolliwogSE as well.

:spyder: I hope the cf harpy's popular enough to perhaps get a larger hawkbill made. :) cf"s automatic colllectability could perhaps make a cf spyderhawk market feasible? :spyder:

Looks to be another great knife
This'll be the next purchase without a doubt. Might have to preorder.

I'll probably be the only person to say this, but I'd love it if it were delayed :o
If only so I could save up the money to buy one. October is too soon, I'm still recouping from previous :spyder: s

I have a 2 fold question about CArbon Fiber. I admit my knowledge about the material is somewhat limited. I know it is a by-product of the aerospace industry. Why is Carbon Fiber so expensive? OR is it extremely hard to work with which would also make it pricey.
I like the Stainless Harpy, I love the 2 G-10 Harpys I have. I got an extra one just so I could have one to use. Even though I did that I still can't bring myself to use either one of my G-10 handled ones. But the grip is awesome. My PE Merlin ( a Harpy with an FRN handle) is truly a "handyman's" dream. Even the PE version is so keen at getting into areas which are hard to get into.
The Stainless Harpy is nice but I think I am going to have mine knurled so I can get a better grip on it. Better yet let's have them bring back the G-10 Harpy and also let's get them to bring it back in various colors as well. ;) :spyder:

JD, I work in the aerospace industry and I can tell you that CF is pure hell for your tools. It dulls drills, countersinks, whatever, in a very fast rate.

JD,
I would like to have the G10 Harpy back too. Rather than the CF model(which I will buy anyway) I would like the the G10 Harpy in H1 steel and Titanium liner and clip for the same money..

Alright you HB aficianados--
Would the market support a Harpy with G-10 scales (black or other color) & ZDP-189 blade (full or laminated)?
I will be getting the CF variants -- they'll be my first in this handle material.

OR is it extremely hard to work with which would also make it pricey. I found a couple places that offer .125" G10 sheet. Cost is approximately $25 per square foot. CF sheet fiber that thickness runs about $75 a sq. ft. Add to that the extra wear and tear on tools that Piet pointed out, and the higher price is pretty easy to understand.
For those who really want a G10 Harpy, I strongly suspect that they are still being produced for the Japanese market, as one eBay seller, known for importing knives in that category, lists them fairly regularly. Price is no bargain when he has them, the street price on the CF will probably be about the same. But, I know when I have one of those "wild hairs", price becomes less of an issue than just getting what I want.

But a lot less sure the general marked would. I think that for the majority of tasks folks actually use a HB for, the Tasman Salt has a lot better chance of finding favor. Virtually rustproof and reasonably priced is a lot easier sell than better edgeholding at twice the price or more.

That was the "market" I was figuring on -- another sprint run sounds good.

Yes, I too would go for such a sprint run (but then, what HB blade wouldn't I buy from Spydie-ville?)...
I'm so predictable that way
