I am the proud owner of a cricket and I'm now looking to get it back to the razor sharp blade it had when I first got it. I don't know what I should be using nor do I know how the technics work. If anyone has any info, could you let me know please. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and welcome to the forums... Seriously, the sharpmaker will make it easy as pie. Just watch the video and go at it.

plain edge, either get a traingle or round stone, and go at it like you would with a file.
serrated it demands the 204, just cover each serration seperatly and make sure you don't miss any. I have poked my fingers on the tips of the teeth more than with the tip of the hook.

Thanks for the welcome! What type of stone should I use?

:spyder: you should use the :spyder: co sharpmaker stones. Spend the $45 and you'll never look back (sharper than out of the box!) :spyder:

First off to you probably should get a sharpmaker 204. Here's the thing I sharpened freehand because I'm stubborn and I already have a couple Diamond rods and assorted sharpening stones. The problem is you generally end up rounding out the edge if you're not really good so I sharpened freehand and from time to time I may send a knife in to be professionally beveled again. If You're just looking for something to get by with I suggest a Diamond rods which you can use for seriation or plain edge you can even use a kitchen knife sharpening raw but be careful not to blunt the tip.
If I were starting from scratch I would just get a sharp maker with Diamond rods.

I don't have any experience sharpening recurved blades like the Cricket, but I think you should be able to put a good edge on it with something like a Lansky crock stick sharpener. These sell for about $10.00 at sporting goods stores.

Spyderco will sharpen it for you for $5 shipped but the Sharpmaker will last you a long time and sharpen many knives or tools for you in the years to come. It is worth the investment. It is also pretty cool to be able to sharpen your own knives to factory or better sharpness on your own.

I have a plain edge cricket, is it best to use the flat side or triangle side?
