I'm bored... I'm thinking.. bad combination.

Here's the senario: The SHTF, Martial Law has just been declared(choose the risk, you'll be under it for a week). You now have 15min to get out the door and on the way to hiding. Gov't and military are too busy covering thier own skin.

1: what are the first 5 items you grab?
2: what are the top 3 items you don't have but should at this point(will have to accquire later at some point, somehow)?
3: how long are you prepared for?

myself [BOB in trunk already, along with 12x15 tarp] :
1: 5gal jug of water (full and in garage), fall jacket, leather treatment kit, travel mug, comp data backups(disc binder with both dvd and cd's, info & programs).

2: preground coffee(have 6 pots worth ground & vaccuum sealed, in my bag), extra food(have 5-6 days worth for myself in my bag), water purification(have 4 litres in my bag, would grab the 5gal jug on the way out if I was home though)

3: as far as food goes, 5-6 days... as far as water IN my kit, 4 days tops. Never let my tank get below 1/2, which gives me 200km(or so) of driving which gets me to anywhere with a gas station and hopefully far enough away from here.

i love how coffee is a priority... but only enough for 6 pots? that'll only last you couple hours, patrick! i'd suuuure hate to be there when it runs out....

it's very hard to imagine this kind of situation happening in delaware, but...

grab now:
(realistically, i would just grab the two bags i packed filled of everything i need for 2.5 years in africa, but if that's not an option...)

1. hatchet
2. flashlight and spare batteries (box of 24 lithiums stored with my flashlights...)
3. knives -- barminski fixed blade and manix and victorinox SAK
4. cans of food
5. water and water purifier

try to get:
1. GUN
2. more food and water
3. radio

how long would i be prepared for? probably 4-5 days or so... at least. plenty of water clean enough to drink to be found near where i live, and plenty of supermarkets to loot...

Guns, Ammo, and as many Spare Mags as possible. With these, it is possible to attain other necessities.
Guns:

Handgun
Rifle (preferably with collapsible stock, semi-auto, in NATO caliber. If not, then good, scoped LR bolt action. Both, if possible)
Shotgun (preferably 12 ga. Pump w/ shortened barrel and maybe stock)
Water Purifier (+ container/s)
Foodstuff (I imagine MRE would be most practical) + kit
Salt Tablets & Water Purification Tablets
Compass
Area Topo Maps (if possible)
Large Fixed Blade
Leatherman
Folder of choice (Endura: just because I’ve no experience with Military or Manix. Go with what you know)
Hat (boonie)
Cordage
First Aid kit
Sleeping bag
Roll up mat (doubles for sleeping and shooting rest)
Tarp
Outer Clothing appropriate to climate (Most likely hunting cloths) preferably cammo.
Fire starter (mag rod?)
Extra Bootlaces (several pairs)
Foot Powder
Flashlight w/ extra batteries
Binoculars
Coffee (I don’t drink it, but it could be used for barter)

Most of this can fit in a military style duffle bag.

In a martial law scenario, most people would be confined to homes, but probably given enough freedom to attain necessities during the day. For them, most of the above would be unnecessary. Count on not having much use of your car unless you are privileged. Gas would probably be one of the first things to be rationed.

For someone going into hiding, the comforts of society probably wouldn’t be an option. This means probably on foot, and avoiding the main areas.

ghostrider: the whole "15 min to run" thing is BECAUSE of the enforced confinement... take off in the immediate chaos.

Not sure I understand, does the “go into hiding” mean, possibly a “safe house”, or does it mean your just leaving work for home?

Anybody remember the movie, I think it was called "Red Dawn"? Where the Russians and Cubans invaded the US.

I was thinking of that film just now.

I could not run for two reasons.

1. I have small children

2. I would have to help care for the sick and injured

That won't work so-

I stay home and wait for hell to come to me! I'll be in my Rec. Room (kind of like movie Tremors). Why leave I got everything I need. Guns, knives, explosive devices, water (well), solar power, generator, food, and on and on.............in fact if you guy's have no place to go, come over here to OZ.
