Is there any hope for us lefties? My friend got himself a crossbill and I was really impressed, but as a lefty, I find it dificult to spend money on a righty only knife. How hard would it be to move the clip? What is the likelyhood of lefty holes in the future?

:spyder: stainless steel, right? I'll bet that can be drilled. probably isn't just to keep prices down. :spyder:

If you can live with tip up carry, finding someone to drill and tap for LH carry is certainly an option. Would be leery of doing it for tip down, as it would require drilling right in the pivot area, too easy to screw up. I agree it would make sense for Spyderco to d&t at least one of the Byrds for 4 way carry.
I've been wishing they would make a lefty too. If they did , i would buy a few

i think i might be able to do it myself, if i decided it was worth the ~$10 for a properly sized tap and bit. I definately could live with tip up, even though for larger knives, with heavy handles, spyder drops are appealing. I might give it a shot, the Cara Cara is definately a ton of knife for the money. No where else are you going to find nearly 4 inches of 440c for 20 bucks. Might be worth dealing with the righty clip, i can always just carry right (i am somewhat ambidextrious, because i mouse with my right hand, playing computer games esp first person shooters and other things).

Hello,
I am also a southpaw, but I see no problem with the byrds, they are great knives for very low price. I dont care so much about the leftie clips, becuase they are still more knives out there which I would like to be ambidextrous more as these byrds, for. example the paramilie or military in LH version..
I think for 20 bucks the byrds are GREAT as they are. I cant wait for the FRN models ;)

I agree with you on the leftie paramillie, I have been wanting one of those too, but I would probably have a number of byrds by now if they were leftie friendly, but I am sure I will be able to deal with the rightie clip. I will probably get one soon.

Just had what may either be a brain-storm (possible) or a brain-fart (far more likely). Wonder if one could fabricate a clip that would use the three holes at the rear of the right side, wrap around the rear of the knife and be usable from the left side.

Zerileous, you solved the riddle of why companies cater to rightys. It has to be worth it. As for yourself, invest the 10 bucks for a drill and tap, include your labor and time, 18-20 dollars for the knife plus shipping, now your $20 good deal knife is costing you $35+. Is it worth it, or do you live with a right handed knife or look elsewhere.
I feel for you guys that are southpaws, but for 20 bucks for what you're getting, I'd live with it. No slam intended here guys.

Hello Paul,
I had similar idea, but somehow think it would be not the ideal one. I think better ways is to learn how to draw the knife with left one and turn it in the left one, then open. I cant describe it well, just put the knife with RH clip in your pocket and try to grab it as best as you can. Again, I like byrds as they are, no need to drill anything more.
My first :spyder: back in 91' was a righty clip and was my EDC for many years. Never really thought much about it .. but now that more and more are designed with the lefty in mind I tend to be more selective. Guess I would rather spend a little more for the convenience then to just live with it these days. If they do make one ambi.. it will definatly be added to my collection.
Paramilie and Milie in Lefty  .. now that would be awsome.

Where are you getting the byrds for 20 bucks? Are you not including shipping?

If you read my post, it says 20 bucks plus shipping. You can buy them on e-bay for 19 and some change (+ shipping), I believe NGK has pretty much the same pricing.

Yeah there is the whole shipping thing, which does effectively raise the price.
Now, lets do something more productive with this thread and discus methods to carry righty clip knives like byrds and (para)millie. I certainly would have a pmillie high on my list for next EDC folder if it had a righty clip, although its understandable with the single liner construction. (correct me if i am wrong here)
The newer byrd models (11 models) are going to 4way clips. They will be coming out model by model over the next 6-9 months. Current models will change in the future to 4way.

I'm RH, but I practice w/ both hands
What works best for me using my knife LH w/ a RH only knife is to carry the knife tip down in my LR pocket, when drawing, have your knuckles in, towards your body, this is how I normaly carry my Lil temp, its kinda big for front pockets & real tight fit in RR pocket when it shares it w/ your wallet.
The lil temp is fatter, but in all other respects my crossbill is bigger
I think I paid $25 including shipping for it
Another byrd I have is the pelican, w/ its sheepsfoot blade & its weight, I bet it would do real good in the blue jean wrapped roast test lol, I paid $35 for 2 pelicans including shipping on ebay from razorsharpknife, he only charges for shipping on the first knife, but the pelican was the only byrd he had at the time, I've bought over 20 :spyder: 's from him lol

thanks for the great news Sal, I guess that byrd knife purchase will have to wait, or I might get impuslive and tag one onto a NGK order sometime, but thats not the plan.
