View Full Version : How do you store/display your Spydies?

As I continue to collect and use these knives, I am wracking my brain for a way to store and display them (knives folded, I guess).

I've been thinking that perhaps a dedicated knife cupboard with some kind of rack inside that has a lip such that the knives could be clipped to it, and therefore viewed or at least easily identified; might be the answer.

This cupboard could then be made lockable and remain somewhat secure.

Any design ideas?

I have a board with 1/8" pins on my wall that houses my current knives with room for quite an addition. The board holds about 30. Its an easy way to keep track of them, and makes it 'easyier' (if thats possible) to select for daily changes to carry preference.

Thanks for the ideas fellows,

Tom Percy - This is kind of what I had in mind. Something that will facilitate easy changes and switches, at the same time making it easy to view them...for playing.

How did you affix the pins to the board?

You can either the screw in type with a hook, or just buy 1/8" brass rod and cut them to length and push them into the board. If you use a depth gauge to get the holes the same length, it's no problem to just precut the rod to all the same length.

What Im currently doing is cutting a large rectangular portion out of a deksk, adding a base, putting a grove in the cutout (for glass) then once sealed up (with a pull out drawer at the bottom) Im lining the base with a red velvety material to show up the dark G10.

Busy doing this in my spare time, but thought I needed something real special for my babies.

Thanks Tom, I'm going to try this design out.

MaNcEr - Wow, does that ever sound nice! Storage facility and presentation case all in one. This desk wouldn't happen to be the one your computer is sitting on, would it?

I have an antique thread box, used to display thread in a general store, with 3 shelves, all the pins for the thread spools had been cut off previously. Each shelf has slants in it that fit the clips on my Spydercos perfectly. I’m going to cover the shelves with velvet. I should be able to fit 20 Spydies to a shelf.

Ehh, supposed to be Thorin... : )

But if you keep them in the box or in a spyderpack nobody can see them. What I first started doing was I went to Home Depot and bought a 24x36 white melamite wood shelf and used small 3/4 inch wire brads and hung them by the hole. When I ran out of space i went and bout another. Well I finally came to the realization that I was going to need a better and more secure way of displaying my Spydercos. So i went and bought a large display case and a few boxes of the plactic diamond display stands from SFO and set them in those. 8 glass shelves lighted from above with anywhere from 8 to 20 knives per shelf. Of course have my special display for my Q collection and another for all the hawkbills and such. Works pretty well and helps take the scary look away from displaying my collection that I am proud of.

jyork,

That must be some collection. Sounds fabulous!

Before I heard some of these great suggestions...The idea I had was to use some kind of a backboard with a rail or perhaps a leather strip stretched accross the width such that I could use the knives pocket clips to suspend or attach them. I thought that this way, I could either display them opened, or store them closed.

It might sound kinda crazy, but I design my own knife stands out of Lego bricks. It's great because you don't have to buy another stand when you purchase more knives, you just take it apart and build a new one. It's also convenient because there are so many colors.

You know, the Lego idea actually might work... I got a 2'x3'x1' box of the stuf form my years of playing with it. It may as well get used...

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

I use a wooden framed glass-top table to which I fixed a dark blue (synthetic) silk cloth covered MDF board bottom. Works great ...
But now I need a bigger one ... to many knives ...

I made a knife drawer in my home office, it is almost full. Soon I'll have to come up with something else. The ones I'm useing lay on our night stand. RKBA!
