Here I go again. I just ordered my 23th Spyder and still don't own a sharpmaker. I think a sharpmaker is no fun. I rather add 30 to 50 EUR to the price of a sharpmaker and buy a new Spyder. I am as happy as a child after ordering a knife. Especially after all you guys gave comments about the knife I am planning to buy(this forum is really, really bad for my wallet)
But I don't think I can go without a sharpmaker much longer because the other day I noticed that my SS Harpy was not as shaving sharp anymore(I put it to rest so it doesn't get really dull)

Maybe next time I'll order the sharpmaker together with another(not so expensive) Spyder so I still have something to look forward to.

spydutch, it is more fun to collect the knives than the sharpening implements. I just wouldn't get the same kick out of opening and closing my sharpmaker.

I spent yesterday using my SE Merlin to break down over 100 cardboard boxes to put out for recycling Tuesday. Needless to say it was less than sharp when I finished the job. Five minutes on the Sharpmaker brought it back to life, I use my :spyder: ies so keeping them sharp is important. They are meant to be used right :D . Like what you use, Cheers, Rob

I gotta go with WOTANSON1 on this. Once you get a sharpmaker, you'll have almost as much fun with it as with your :spyder: s.

Besides, it's only fair. The blade needs edge.

Getting your knifes really sharp again will make you a happy chappy too. Myself, I enjoy keeping my knifes as sharp as I can get them. I guess you will too.

Having and using a sharpmaker is what makes this whole knife thing waaayyy more fun, than just buying new knives because they went dull. Really using your knives is a lot more fun than just looking at them, trust me!

i put off getting a sharpmaker for waaaay too long. a couple months. :D :D :D

believe me -- after you get one, you'll have as much fun with it as with any of your knives. it enhances the whole spydie experience... AND... sharpening gives you an excuse to spend some extra quality time with your knives.

EXAMPLE: "honey -- are you playing with your knives AGAIN???" "playing?! WHAT?! no way! i'm SHARPENING them!"

and really... a knife isn't YOUR knife unless you sharpen it and maintain the edge yourself.

i like your idea, though -- get a sharpmaker, and another spydie to look forwards to. the sharpmaker will surprise you!

It's pretty cool when you realize that the matter you just separated is because of the highly keen edge you put on your own knife.

I may have said this before, but sharpening is a sort of meditation for me (I think I called it therapy, before), but the result is the same. I go into a sharpening trance.
My roomate was snapping her fingers in front of my face one day. She asked if I was OK? I said "Uh, yeh, umm, why? She said she'd been asking me a question, twice, and I just kept sharpening.....Creeped her out I think :D She said I even rotated the stones and started sharpening again. I honestly don't remember :o

I got mine on saturday and sharpened 5 knives with it right away. Next will be the kitchen knives. I got the dvd also. You can sharpen almost anything with the sharpmaker. I'm almost looking forward to dulling some knives so I can use it again.
