I read in a little brochure I got with the C54 Calypso that the designer of the Military (Sal isn't it?) would send his daughter or son into the army with this knife. But what about the Manix?
To be honest, I'm very happy with my Manix/CE but I tend to favour my Military/SE over my Manix lately. Don't know why though. The Manix has more in a knife that I like(heavy, double liners) but every time I look at the Military I want to carry it and forget about the rest of my knives. Is this normal or am I finally "over the top" and ready for the "nuthouse"?

What I really want to ask is: with which knife do you want to send your son/daughter into the army(or go yourself), the Military or the Manix?

 Seriously, the manix has a shorter blade and may be more u.c.m.j. friendly

well I think we already got our answer: Sal was ready to send the Military to Eric if he'd got in the army but Eric didn't see it that way and designed the Manix. Papa Sal said "ok, your call... but I'll build it for you. that way I know it won't let you down". story's end. :D

D'oh! You're not talking about the U.S. Army! :o u.c.m.j. is "uniform code of military justice" U.S. military law.

By reading the replies on my thread I notice that it must be a funny one. Maybe I shouldn't post threads when I have drunk a few beers....

I still have a few year to worry about which knife my son will be taking with him into the military. But, for the moment his Dad caries a Manix. I don't think anyone could go wrong with either knife. I chose the Manix over the Military for a few little reasons that will probably never matter, they just make me feel better.

I'm fortunate enough that I work in a military that isn't concerned with the size of a soldiers knife (they give me far more dangerous tools!). So that wasn't a consideration. I use the knife for little jobs from opening letters, to cutting undergrowth out of running gear. If I ever have to rely on it for MBC then one very large vehicle, four assualt rifles, two pistols and my sense of better judgement have all failed me  . However, there is something particularly reasuring about carrying around a pocket sized MBT!

I completely agree that the Manix is a helluva knife. However, my prefferences go towards the Military. It's longer and lighter (always preffered slim tall girls vs. chubby ones)
