I didn't want to hijack DB's thread on e-bay for this but...speaking of the 25th anniversary Delica....

I admire this knife to no end as do most of us and was wondering how it was offered for sale when it came out. Did you have to order direct from Spyderco or get it from a retailer?

In the short time I've been aware of it and have tracked the sales on e-bay with interest, I noticed more than a few times, the seller comes from Colorado. This leads me to believe former/current enployees. Were employees given these knives as a gift to mark the anniversary?

If yes, was this number included in the "official" 500 produced and offered for sale?

What were employees given to mark the milestone?

From what I understand, there were somewhat less than 500 total made. They were sold through the normal channels, had an MSRP of $349 and carried a normal markup, so many dealers discounted them. I have heard of them being sold as low as $225. I missed getting the last one an online dealer had, and was selling for $275, by about an hour early last year. I wound up paying $325 on eBay a short while later, thought that was high at the time. Who knew that they'd skyrocket in price.

I really doubt that any were handed out as employee perks, but a few may have been. Employees might have gotten a discount, and may have considered the 25th Ann a good investment. But, even more likely, the "Colorado" in the eBay listing is pure baloney, have bought from perhaps 20 sellers who listed that, but only three or four of the were really in CO.

 What a strange thing to b.s. about, who cares where the seller is?

Just though I'd share this vastly entertaining little tidbit of information. There is a 25th anniversary delica on ebay right now, with a starting bid of $700. Now thats what I call ridiculuous.

 What a strange thing to b.s. about, who cares where the seller is? :confused:Michael, I think it may be more a case of people misinterpeting what eBay is asking for as "location of item" - the fact that all the "phony" locations for Spyderco sellers have been Colorado leads me to think they're putting down where the knife came FROM, rather than where they, and the knife, actually are. All the transactions I mentioned in the previous post went smoothly, so whatever the reason, it was not part of a scam.
