I got my new Spyderco UK Pen-kinfe today and have a bit of a problem with it. The blade had quite a lot of play, I tried tightening the torx screws on the blade pin. If I tighten them too far it becomes impossible to open the blade, if I do them less tight they become loose again quickly; in about 10-20 openings/closings.
How should I solve this problem?

unscrew the pin all the way, put some locktite on the threads (just a touch!)
screw it back, find the sweet spot whre it's just the right balance for you and leave it to dry a little.
should take care of it

I got the exact same problem when I received with my second penknife, the screws of both pivot and handle weren't tighten enough, the blade had some play and when I tried to tighten the whole thing the blade won't open anymore.
I found out that the problem came from one of the washers, it was stuck in the pivot between the pivot pin and the pivot hole in the tang of the blade. disassemble the knife and make sure to place the washers correctly, it will solve your problem.
good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys I'll tell you how I get on.

The only problem I have with this knife is that it has never been available everytime I tried to find one.
Someone told me of a place to snag one but another Spydie knut was faster I guess. One of these days I'll hopefully find one. I'd just like to have it for the 'rarity' factor being the first and all.

In the UK they are available here:

they may ship to the states, but it may seem very pricey there.

they might be expensive because of the European importation taxes but this knife definitely worth it! I like it so much that I'm making some stock for the future, already have 2 and planning to buy at least 1 or 2 more...

In fairness, the one I snagged on eBay, and most, if not all of the other handful I saw sold, fetched MORE than the price Heinnie Haynes is asking. A couple brought prices close to, and possibly a bit higher than MSRP. This seems to be one of the rare cases where ordering a Spyderco from a source outside the USA is cost effective for US buyers.
