The shop which orders my knives for me has a Blue Almite Walker. At first I found it too small for my liking(and only in PE) so just another knife for collecting only. However, every time I walk past the display I find it more and more attractive.
My question is: is this knife suitable for EDC or indeed better for collection only( just as my CF Dragonfly/SE which I bought last week)?
The Walker is beautiful to see though....

I have never handled one but it seems that it would be a great knife. I have wanted one since it has come out, but just not had the chance to buy one. It seems like it is a tad smaller than say a Delica, but I love how it looks.
I just like all the rounded edges and I love how it all "flows" and there is nothing sticking out or out of place. :)

i have just got one a few days ago and although i did plan to keep it for the collection ,it being a sprint run and all ,the weight and blade shape/size will mean it will get carried not in the strictist sense of EDC as i have one work knife that i use then i have a rotation for my other knives which i carry when not working and it will definatly be in this rotation as i perfere the smaller, lighter knives for this i.e. dragons and crickets ect...
but what ever i would definatly get one ,its fast becoming a favorite of mine

I agree Spydutch, its a neat little piece. I'm sure its strong enough to use. Its just that it will hurt more if you scratch it than if it were an FRN Delica or so.
I am thinking of picking one up for office use-when the Manix or Military may scare the coworkers :D
It's nice, strong and slick. A great lightweight, without the feel of the FRN I don't like. It has one of those WHACK sounding locks (in a good way). You can hear the WHACK across the room. Sharp and ergonomic, while remaining somewhat "traditional." Winner on all counts.

Its for sure a little big knife. I bought two when they came out and one sits in my case and the other is in my pocket. I thought the same thing at first "man this thing is small" but it has done every job with no problem.
Great little piece.

I really like mine. Great looking knife and I especially like the color. I carry mine as a dress knife which is not that often. I agree with RLR, the knife is stong and slick and sorta sounds like my Lum Chinese when opening and closing.
I used the Almite version as my EDC for about a month. The small size made it a little more office-friendly and such. My only real issues with it:
1 - Easy to get dust/lint in the knife (no insert)
2 - PE - man, I would have loved a CE on this. I do a lot of box-cutting.
Other than that, it's great. It's a very nice-looking knife to boot (as seen by the many excellent photos here). I'd recommend it.

p.s. I'm now carrying a Salsa CE, which is a whole different story.

To start with I am very picky. But I can find very little to pick at with this knife. I have couple questions though are the washers Teflon, and what is the purpose of the cut out on the clip side of the handle, is like a miniversion of the cut out to operate the liner lock but it is on the other side of the handle.

That cut out is there to make it possible to Spydie-drop this knife.

Good day, all.
The shop I order from apparently has a small supply of these new knives available, so I broke down and ordered one. I just received confirmation that it was available, is ordered, and should be here around Tuesday of next week.
I really was not an enormous fan of the knife initially, but after reading so many positive comments I decided to go ahead and order.
This brings me to the conclusion that this same shop will have the CF Harpies available this fall. A matching set in PE and SE for me, thank you!

I use my almite Walker as an office knife (kinda like my Kopa)..it's super light, beautiful....It doesn't ride too low in the pocket though (unlike the Kopas), sorta peeks out like a Dragonfly does....but it certainly is a "classy" EDC especially when "dressing up" :) .

Aloha ALL,
Kinda late for this one. The :spyder: Walker has always been one of my favorite designs. Love that ramp above the RoundHole (although I wish it had that fine texturing that The Deacon speaks so highly of on it! ;) ), High grind line makes for a sharp blade, comfortable in hand...*sigh*.
It does ride a bit high, and the FRN version when squeezed in a "SHTF moment kinda grip" *can* disengage the lock...The Almite version is an absolute beaut. I'd use it only for light duty use that's for sure!
God bless

This is the :spyder: dress knife for me.
Could we have another sprint run of Klotzli-made CF Walkers, please? :)
The Almit Walker is definitely a user: Office friendly  and sturdy enough for all normal tasks. (whatever "normal" may be, it surely can't compete with a Chinook) :p
Go ahead and use it, I'm sure it will grow on you.

I'm digging up an old thread, but does anyone remember the old alumimum Walker Spyderco did a few years ago? It was black (or dark grey) and, if I'm not crazy, I think it was specifically available through a catalog like Ironstone or the Cutlery Shoppe (but I'm not positive on that fact).
Anyone have one of these? I would be curious if there are any differences other than the obvious color.
BTW, hey everyone! If you haven't noticed, I'm the new guy. I sold Spyderco's back in the halcion days of 1993-1998 (the days of titanium Police Models, Alumimum Black Hawks, Aluminum Bob-Ts, etc.) but I have never stopped collecting. I've been lurking for a couple of months, but this is the first time I have been moved to post.

Welcome to the forum Appler...
the black Walker was the CX06 (Experimental #6), small run that never went into production until now. Don't know for sure if there are differences between the old and new model, but I'd say there are minor.

I kept digging and found a thread from March that proves I'm not crazy (at least on this point). Looks like at least some of the were combo-edges and were assembled with Phillips heads. Still curious if there were any other differences. That's probably one I should have bought...but I was young and poor. Now I'm old and poor, but I managed to afford a blue one so the sting throbs a bit less. :)

Aloha spydutch!
Ya better believe it's capable of EDC'ing! I EDC'd the older FRN version with great results! How can you not have great performance with a compact folder with a high blade grind being very sheeple friendly?
This new Almite version is a great improvement over the old FRN model. The FRN one I could manage an unlocking of the liner with a healthy squeeze of the handle. Also, there's something to that Almite Blue and Shiny VG10, isn't there? :D I only wish they left it tip up!
God bless

hello spydutch!
my Almite Walker shares time for office rotation; It is very functional, light, and as Chad mentioned, very sheeple friendly...along with the Kopa's /Cricket/Meerkat as my office carry faves...but I agree it's such a beauty that I hate to mar the finish of the almite so I've got it on the "gawk-shelf" recently...I've found that's a common problem with quite a few of the non-FRN spydercos! ;) :)

I got my blue Almite Walker. Got a very good deal from a fellow forumite. Very beautiful knife. I don't intend to use it hard(too nice) but I'm planning to carry it when I don't have the risk of losing or damaging it.
BTW great ergonomics. Fits my (gorilla) hands like a glove.
Shaving sharp(of course) right out the box.
Very happy with it :D
there is nothing about this knife that i don't like.
highly recomended! ;)

Ken, is that bottom one black or gray almite? I was just speaking with a former :spyder: employee. Her recollection was that the Ironstone-exclusive almite Walker was gray. I've not seen black almite before. Cool!

Hello SK
It is very close to black but I would still say it was a very dark grey. I believe that the shades of grey did vary somewhat as I have seen lighter versions.
