Several times people have asked what martial art I studied to learn knife...

My grandfather gave me my first pocket knife..and told me to keep it sharp, clean & oiled and it would be my best friend..

He used it to cut food, whittle, clean his nails..you name it,it was an EDC tool....

wing Chun taught me blade orientation and usage...

Hung Gar gave me concepts..

but Professor Presas and Modern Arnis: Filipino Martial art showed me bladed response and usage...

Filipino arts, teach a great deal of bladed material...singularly, double, long & short or double long....

the Prof used to tell me/us that the real tool of Arnis was the Bolo.

"Bram, you see, he is cut!He moves and you cut him!"

He gave me my first Bolos...

Many martial arts styles use blades..not just Filipino...You just have to look..

Thank-you Bram, for the background. Of course, you've opened the path for a few questions.

So here's mine: What qualities of the bolo induced Professor Presas to hold it high regard?

As an aside, may your Grandfather be honored on Father's Day.
