I fell off the Chinook bandwagon..

Without hesitation I admit the Chinook is a great knife, but for some reason I just don't get that 'have to have it' vibe. I'm familiar with the materials, construction and have even handled one, so I've no doubt as to it's quality I just don't get that spark.

I've read all the posts about the Chinook and Jerry VanCooks article in the most recent Tactical knives, and even written to Mr. VanCook directly, AND I STILL DON'T QUITE GET IT.

Help I feel like I'm missing something, Why would I all of a sudden need to replace the knife I carry with a Chinook? There are too many supporters for me not to give this knife a shot. So where am I going wrong in my evaluation of this knife?

I found it's quite simple. Although we all know about the Spyderco quality, certain knives turn on certain on people. I can appreciate what you're going through, as I feel that way about certain blade shapes, and sometimes I "get it" later on.

Chambers, you haven't gone wrong in your eval. it's just not right for you. This is the Golden Age of production knives. More choices from top makers than ever before. So the Chinook doesn't spark your fancy? Buying it just because other knife guys love it will likey be a poor fit. I betcha there is some knife that will swoon you into a daily love affair. It may even be a blade that other folk just hate, but it murmurs 'vibes' of strenght to you.

Which means when you REALLY need a knife, your best tool will be within easy reach.

chambers, while the chinook is by far my favorite knife it is not going to be everyones favorite. that is why we are so lucky that there are so many different models. just take the advice of all the other replies you got. with the number of new models that come out every year your sure to find more than one that you cant live without.

I can also relate, Chambers.
Despite all the raves for it and the enormous popularity, it was the GUNTING that just couln't move me.
OTOH, my CHINOOk still gives me the 'goosebumps' when I pick up and handle it.

Don't worry, Chambers. No one here is going to smack ya! <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> There are certain knives which you must come to in your own time to appreciate.

I can relate completely. I was given a Buck 450 back in 1997, but it took me 3 years to fully appreciate what a good knife it was and to use it regularly.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I can attest to not falling in love with both the chinook and gunting right awy but eventually they made it into my rotation. The one knife that never made it with me was one that was given to me ~~ a aluminum 710 axis lock from b@$!^&amp;*^e 88/200 Great knife by some people standards ended up trading it for a plastic cliped rescue, San mai cold steel folder and a handshake.

I know where you're coming from. Though I have many <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>s, my EDC is still the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Endura. And I would use for everything from trimming fat from meat, opening boxes, to &quot;affairs of honor&quot;(i.e. self defence) .
