i was just wondering about getting a shapmaker i was never very good with a stone and tried a lansey, so i pretty much resoved to sending spydercos to the factory for sharppening. but ive read most of the post last year and the 204 gets a lot of high marks. if it cost about $10 round trip mailing to the factory every sharpen that would mean six times i could buy the 204. is it as good as the factory edge? is it hard to learn?

I have the same questions. I'm too sloppy with my stone and want something easier. (Yes, I'm lazy!)

Am I the only one smoking cloves here?

The 204 is a snap to learn. I've had mine for a month and a half and I've sharpened just about everything I could get my hands on. There's an excellent video with it that shows Sal demonstrating it's use.

You will not be disappointed with the Sharpmaker, at least I couldn't imagine how you would.

I am good with my hands and love mathmatics. I pride myself on being able to sharpen a knife. I have used bench stones and the Lansky sharpeners at least 10 years a piece (20+ together) and am very happy with the Sharpmaker. The bench stones are still my choice for special situations but the Sharpmaker is quick and effective.

Try it, you'll like it.

Take care,

Before my 203 was stolen along with some personal gear, I carry it everyday with its ballistic nylon sheath and offer sharpening services at no charge! The Sharpmaker is highly user-friendly and model 204 comes with an instructional video which is of great value to its user. As a personal assurance, you can't go wrong with the 204! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
