View Full Version : Knife Size Comparison

Good day, all.
How about the prospects of adding a size comparison chart to the Spyderco catalog to better enable us to determine approximate knife sizes at a glance? Something on a single page with pics of all of the current knives laid out in order of OAL descending with some kind of ruled lines behind it incremented in inches, etc.? It would be a big help in determining relative sizes.
Thoughts, everyone?

Hannibal,
That has came to my mind a number of times. Even though they have the measurements on the bottom of the page, I am still amazed when I recieve my knife.
I second your thoughts.
Like they say... Great minds think alike. :D
Take care.

OH Yes Doctor I totally concur with that idea. Of course Doctor your ideas are usually sterling and pragmatic to boot. One other thing I could add to that would be to give a chart or legend of blade and edge shapes and maybe a profile of the model's geometry. This is right up Spyderco's alley because they are always innovative and usually first with such ideas as this. ;) :spyder:

I know some of you already know this, but for those who do not...
Ted in his infinite wisdom has posted info like some of this for our pleasure.

As you can see, I do not know how to do links.

Totally agree with you. I'm sort of at the point of actually picking up a "potential" first before buying it if possible. Even comparing it to one of my EDC's. Sometimes it doesn't help :D I picked up an Endura, compared it to my Delica (it didn't seem that much bigger) and when I got it home, for some reason, it had grown!!! Been caught on that one more than a few times. Usually, though, it's been that a blade was smaller than I expected.

:spyder: My first edged (non-trainer) spyder was a manix. I got it because of the jimping. Boy was I surprised! I had to tighten my belt to keep my pants on! :spyder:

I had the same problem with keeping my pants in place while carrying a full-sized .45 ACP Kimber around all day. When people would inquire as to why I carried such a large handgun (open carry in a gun shop), I would respond that I required at minimum two pounds of steel behind my right hip to counter my natural port list... :D

Ted's or Paul's websites already allow to do that...

What, something like a dollar bill in the background maybe?

Not a bad idea, just for comparison's sake.
Good show.
I am aware that some of these kinds of resources are available online in one form or the other; I just thought that a quick reference sheet might be a good idea.

The problem is, it would be one more thing for the Spyderfolk to have to update every time a new model was released. Plus there would be the question of whether it should include retired models. If you do, they may possibly confuse John Q., making him think they were available. If you omit them, then at least some of us here will be grumbling that it's incomplete. IMHO, Ted's size order page (http://www.ted.tweakdsl.nl/spyderco/resized.html), with all the models in size order, is as good, and as up-to-date, a reference as anything we could hope for from the factory.

I keep a ruler at the desk by the computer. Just pick it up when in doubt.
Check out Ted's page, its totally awesome. Much better than any of the above suggestions. You can list all models by size and get pictures of all models at the same scale so you can compare them to each other. And you can measure a bar on your screen and type in the length and Teds page will display any model in life size. I've tried it with the models that I have and it's dead on. Not to mention that you get a list of ALL models.
More power to you, Ted! :)
