I am new to the lum folder(c46ps) and was wondering just how sharp i should expect the edge on the part of the blade that angles up to be. It is a new knife, and the bottom edge of the blade is hair popping sharp, but the edge on the end is not.

:spyder: Tanto right? it's the same steel so you should be able to expect it to be as sharp if you do your part skillfully wielding the sharpmaker :spyder:

Hello Cable GUY: Can you tell me what blade Steel you have in the Lum Tanto C-46? I use one of mine for an EDC as well. At first I didn't think it would be practical for an EDC but it really does grow on you. Like I said on another thread most Spydercos come pretty sharp right out of the box. However all of them are going to have to be sharpened. The Hamaguri grind edge which that knife has is a little tricky to sharpen. I have a Cat's Eye stone which I got out of my old Spyderco Galley V sharpening kit. It's contour makes it really easy to do the convex edge.
Vampyrewolf uses a mousepad which he has treated with a jeweler's rouge or Chromium Oxide compound which you can buy from Lee Valley. Then he pulls the blade with the edge trailing while putting pressure downward. I like that method but I like the Cat's eye stone a little better but I am always up for learning something new. Let me know what steel you have. The VG-10 versions are a little harder to find and I would personally keep a VG-10 for a collector for that reason. Let me know. JD ;) :spyder:
