Hey Deacon,

I was wondering if you had a pic of your knife case, that you would be willing to share.

Since my girlfriend is in charge of buying the furniture, I was to give her an idea of what to buy to put all my knives in.

I remember seeing a picture of your case and falling in love. :p

Since she has to clean it, she likes to pick it out. :D

Thank you very much!

Deacon

I see you still have lots of room for expansion of the collection!

Glad I could help PJ.

David, that picture was taken while the cases were not yet fully loaded, as I knew there were things I still wanted to do that would require removing a lot of the knives again. They look "a bit" fuller now.

The curio cabinets themselves were from Walmart. They went together fairly easily, but the original lights were terrible, and there were some other "issues" as well. As you can see from that picture, there were some rather noticable light leaks around the top. Gluing some half inch square stock around the inside took care of that. Added a strip of thin wood to the back of one door in each unit as well to overlap the other and prevent light leaks down the middle between them. Units only came with two glass shelves for each section, so I had a couple extras made up locally.

Lighting is still a "work in progress". The lights were too bright in the top sections, yet not enough light was getting through the glass shelves to the bottom sections. Have still not worked that out totally, have tried small fluourescent, and incandescent with a dimmer. Have finally accepted the fact that I'm never going to find something that will light the entire cabinet, so am now thinking in terms of replacing the glass shelf between the upper and lower units with a solid one, and lighting the lower units separately. If I do that, then flourescents with thick diffusers might give acceptable light. It will also have the side benefit of allowing me to raise the bottom of the top units flush with the glass in the doors, thus making the knives on those shelves easier to see.
