Fixed blade Chinook

Just a thought,but I found through countless use and some of the recent articles i've read I would love to see a fixed chinook.A little more exagurated guard as with the "horns" on the gunting,but same handle style,of course we wouldn't have a hole,but it would make the best hunting knife,not that it isn't already possibly the best spyderco collaboration to date IMHO.The first MBC"fixed blade" if you will.

Hi Whosyour. Thanx for the kind words.

We do have number of Fixed blades in the works to come out over the next 6 or 7 months. There is a Temperance FB design that will offer two blade styles, one of which is similar to the Chinook.

i think a fixed blade chinook is an excellent idea. i would like to see it with about a 5 inch blade and a inside the pants sheath along the lines of the blade rigger design.

Any more insight on the Temperance FB? Blade and handle material, OAL, blade width, sheath design? Will the proto be available for preview by the end of this year at the NY Custom Knife Show?

Sounds like your 3 steps ahead of us.The temperance FB,"Will be offered in both blade styles"I saw proto pics of the temperance jr,and the exaguarated(sp) upswept "rhino horn" blade is going to be the better of the two,can't wait to own it.

Hi Sam.

FB Temperance:

Handle material - FRN with a fairly rough texture.

Blade length - 4.5" (115mm) (two styles; leaf/spearpoint like Calypso jr and tailing point/rhino horn).

Blade Steel - VG-10

Sheath will be kydex.

I have one proto now, should have something to show by NY.

Also planning trainers.

Yeah I suppose a fixed blade would be useful to some, but I wonder if the amount of people who would purchase this blade as opposed to the folder would be enough to support production of this?

Personally the "chin" style fixed blade Im very fond of is the Gerber Bowie, big sharp mother,lol

I wont say I think its a bad idea for Spyderco to produce this, just wonder if the public at large will support this model.

i see where you're coming from on the public support issue,but this in itself will open doors to new aspects as well as defensive,ever see a spyderco in any outdoor mags,i want to,plus,i could honestly say that the local archery/gun shop I frequent is in awe over the chinook,for merely it's outdoor capabilities,I cant wait to show them a FB temperence,I converted two and more on their way to the sharp side

Second that on a fixed blade Chinook. How about a slightly thicker blade too as the folding chinook has a 4mm (.16&quot<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> thick blade which is rather thick for a folder. Just right for me though and I see a trend toward people wanting a slightly thicker blade which is somewhat more rugged. A lot of blades are 1/4&quot; although that is a little too thick in my opinion as it makes cutting harder. Anyway, a 4&quot;-5&quot; fixed Chinook, maybe sharpen about an inch or so of the false edge, like the bowies, and an IWB(inside-waist-band)sheath. Just what the doctor ordered.

Since CRKT is having good sales with it's FB Companion to match it's KFF, I'm sure the Spyderco will sell. The Moran sure sells!

Excellent spec.s Sal! I can't wait to see what it will visually look like, good choice on blade length, between 4.5&quot; and 5.5&quot; blades draw very fast and are comfortably carried most of the time(depending on carry system as well).

Since the handle will be FRN, and I'm guessing you will make it the same green as the first run folders, is it safe to look forward to a black handle run as well? I understand that FRN is less of a hassle to make color changes than G-10(although I hope black handled Temperance folders are in our future as well).
