Hello, I'm sure this question has been asked before but whats a good EDC spydie. what im looking for is something rather small. I already have a Ladybug (carried on my key chain), Dragonfly (kept in my backpak) and a Cricket (always in my pocket, sometimes used as a money clip). My GF got me the cricket, which introduced me to Spyderco :D All great knives but for some reason i just have this urge to get another :spyder: !?!?. I was lookin at the Native and the Kiwi but im not sure which one to get or what other options there are. thanks for your time and any opinions would be gladly appreciated.

If you want to continue with 'small' knives then I think the native and the Delica may be a bit large when compared to the ones you already have.

If you want to stay small, you might want to take a look at the Kiwi or the Meerkat. If you can step up in size a little go with the Calypso Jr. I think the Delica is a great knife but it is about 1/4" longer than a Calypso Jr. My preference is for the Delica.

Don't have any experience with the Native so I can't comment on that.

If you like the Dragonfly you'll love the Calypso Jr. as it is the big brother. :)

Oh....and a.......welcome to the forum :D

welcome to the web... so many spyderco habits begin with a gift... :D

how about a serrated, rust-proof salt I with a yellow FRN handle? serrated H1 steel is nothing short of amazing!

or perhaps a native I with S30V steel? it is one of the most comfortable knives i've ever used, and an excellent work knife...

if you want a pimped-out kiwi, you can find ones with dino bone handles on ebay!

the the meerkat is a great smaller-sized spydie... you'll have tons of fun fooling people with that phantom lock!

if you're thinking delica or calypso jr... might want to wait a month or two until the ones with ZDP "super steel" hit the market.

Another vote for the calypso jr. The knife just feels right in your hand, and its very light making it an ideal EDC. Plus if you like it a lot, you can get the higher end version later in ZDP-189 "super steel."

The caly Jr seems to be very popular but i cant seem to find it in the spyderco catalog. Is it discontinued?

calypso jr. is a great, classy little knife. it's currently discontinued, but there's soon to be a new one with ZDP steel.

john f. jensen has the largest selection of calypso jrs in the discontinued spydie section of www.johnfjensen.com . he's a great guy, and will take good care of you. also, www.newgraham.com -- the favorite knife dealer of many a spyderco forumite -- should still have some grey ones in stock. expect to pay $40 or so. most dealers seem to think that the ZDP calypso jrs will be $65-70.

Take a look at the Centofante III. So slim, so smooth, so light, so sharp! Fits very well clipped in the pocket.

Welcome to the forum,

If you have a chance to handle the knife first, your fortunate. My vote goes to the Caly Jr. grey. At $40 USD they're a bargin. Make sure it's the grey FRN with the fishscale handles, because it's got a VG-10 blade.

Depending on your definition of small you should look at the Almite Walker as well.

Thank you for the links Clovisc, they are very helpful. I'll probably go with a grey Caly jr. I found one from New Graham Knives for only $40, cant beat that. And thanks to everyone who replied. I cant wait till i get it ;)

This is just one more opportunity to shout the praises of my C-44 Dyad. It has now been my main/principle EDC for about 4 months now. I just love the versatility of how versatile it is to work with. Being it is the only 2 bladed knife ( up till now anyway) it blows my mind why more Spyderheads like ourselves have not discovered this "best of both worlds" wonder. If size is a problem then there is no excuse there either. The C-39 Dyad ( the smaller version) in Micarta is a super classic in it's own rite. I have 8 of the C-44s and I have 9 of the C39s ( 3 in the Micarta version) and no none of them are for sale or trade either.

At this time I truly petition the Great Spyder Factory to bring back the Dyad in some other version that would get around the patent problem that the C-44 ran into. But this is up till now the ultimate EDC  :spyder:

I tell ya, JD, I wouldn't mind giving the Dyad a whirl. Unfortunatly I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a knife, even though I'd be getting two for the price of one. Don't know what something like that would go for new, but can't imagine it would be one of the more economical models. It would cut down on the number of knives I currently carry. And I think it has a more "utilitarian" look to it, making it less risky with LEO's IMHO.
