I just ordered a Spyderhawk from http://www.botac.com/ for $45.00+ $7.50 shipping.
Is this a good deal? I havn't seen them anywhere else, so.... :D
I guess the Gunting trainer will just have to wait at the knife shop :o

Hi Tom,
I think you got a fine deal. There's not too much chatter about this knife, but you will love the Spyderhawk!! Getting harder to find, as well.

It hasn't even been that long ago you could go to the Spyderco section on Ebay and there would always be at least 4 to 6 listings for Spyderhawks. It's like Swede says though; now you just don't see them that much anymore. One other example I can think of is the way the Impala changed in demand and scope. Last year you could get that Impala for under $65 consistently. Even the one without the guthook. Now if you can find an Impala for under $100 you had probably better get it. The same with the Spyderhawk: A year ago I could buy that knife all day long for $55 + shipping. I will bet that the next one on EBay goes for at least $70 to $80. Get the Classics cheap while you can. I am now seeing the Bram Frank Gunting taking off and it hasnt' been that long since they were still making that one. ;) :spyder:

Price is excellent, Botach's repuation for actually having advertised items in stock and delivering them is "spotty" at best. Hope you're one of the lucky ones.

I'm sure I'll love it, if they have it  .
They should send a shipping confirmation tomarrow, they did hit my credit card.
If they don't have it, I'll see if they -really- have a Bob Lum for $99.00.
I haven't really looked at getting a Bob Lum because I would scratch the thing if I even looked at it, let alone carried it. But, would that be a good price?
Thanks for the feed back,

Called Botac, after 2m in hold I got "It's on backorder, it'll be a weekandahalf to twoweeks.
I asked where it was on backorder from, since Spyderco doesn't have any, and several other questions that didn't get answers. :(
I guess I'm not one of "the lucky ones". The lady I talked to told me to call beack in about 2 weeks if I didn't get my order. I'm thinking of waiting, on the off-chance that there is actually a supplier that Botac has that has backstock of Spyderhawks. Pipe-dream?

I tried ordering one a few months ago, and I received an email telling me the same thing. After flipping out, I fired back with an email asking how they were backordered when Spyderco no longer makes them, and how was it possible that they could get more in. Needless to say I never got an email response, but I did get a refund.
I think you may be in the same boat as I was. I feel for you if you are. I got burned on that deal.

This kind of garbage gives me an idea for a new "off Topic" thread. I am seeing this kind of crap more and more. Businesses just don't operate like they should. It happens to me almost on a daily basis. It is getting harder and harder to find anyone who can do anything at all right. It doesn't take a guy with an MBA degree from Harvard to realize that this a a cruddy way to treat your customers. It is really bad when virtually all of these businesses don't know what the left or right hand is doing even right under their own roof. There is just absolutely no excuse what so ever for this kind of business practice. And here this good brother thought he had found a Spyderhawk only to be put through the "hassle Mill". I am sure the good brother had many more things he could have done with his time other than be taken on a wild goose chase. Inexcusable!! Totally inexcusable

I have a better one for you JD. When I was looking for a PE Merlin, I knew there was little chance of them being in stock anywhere, regardless of what the websites said. So, I called Botac, and spoke to a real person who told me they had them in stock, but that they were going fast. I told the person I wanted one, she/he placed an order for me. This was over the phone. I think it was a day, maybe two later that I received an email telling me they were out of PE, and would I like an SE instead. I consider that downright fraudulent.
