.
whats the meaning of the fish?
This is why I went with this design.
The Japanese consider it the most spirited of fish, so full of energy and power that it can fight its way up swift-running streams and cascades. Because of its strength and determination to overcome all obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. The carp is an appropriate symbol to encourage the overcoming of life's difficulties leading to consequent success.
Chinese legend says that when carp swim upriver to the dragon gate and leap through it, they are immediately reborn as dragons. Thus the koi is the juvenile state of a dragon signifying potential and a determination to become something more.

Nice work. When you say "Here is what is done so far." What do you plan on adding to it in the future?

i dont own a camera so it may be a few days before i can post mine. its a celtic inspired cross w/ shamrock. although i have had many say that the cross looks tribal.
i love the idea of the full sleave, cant wait to see how it progresses. so far i only have one tat, but plan on at least two more in the near future.

Some fuzzy pics of mine...

Not quite. The carp to dragon frequently pictured in painting, porcelain and other media is actually an analogy (or is it metaphor)? In old China, students studied for years for Imperial exams (which were based on the confucian classics, required poetry composition etc...). Passing exams lead to an appointment as a government official and were key to power and money. The highest scorers went right to the capital to serve the imperial court.
So if a picture of koi and dragon appear together, such a picture might be given to wish someone good luck in the exams. The carp being the student undergoing transformation to something greater - the dragon. Thus the carp can symbolize energetic striving. I am not sure of the exact nuance of the carp symbol in Japanese yakuza traditions.

I don't know how to post pictures(yet) but I have a trible across and around my whole right upper arm and a lion on my whole left upper arm. The lion stands for the fighting spirit of my dad when he fought against his cancer(which he regrettably lost 2 years ago) I am planning to take a tattoo covering my whole back but I don't know what I want on it yet and I want the name of my son in Gothic letters on the inside of my left under arm.

Heres mine. It's the Japanese symbol for infinity or Mugen. Roughly translated it means "no limit". I got it on my right ankle because there is no limit to how fast or how far my right foot will take me.(It's a car thing) I always dreamed of being a professional driver one day.

severedthumbs, Bro that is some serious, impressive ink. How long did it take, and was it all in one sitting? I wish I could share some pictures of mine, but I don't have a digital camera. Just to let you know, I have my right arm "sleeved" also, with a "Tribal Dragon" on the inside of the forearm and a "Tribal Dragon" on the backside of the forearm, and flames all the way up. No color though. I like the "Black Tribal Work" with some "Gray Wash". Also have another "Tribal Dragon" on the side of my right calf. It's body is a bike chain coming off of a sprocket (I Race BMX) turning into the Dragon. You have some sweet work bro. Keep up the "Permanent Pain", its great. Also like our love for Spydercos, Tattoos are just as "ADDICTING". Take Care.
God Bless :)
