Aloha ALL,

Sorry for the title to this thread, but read on.

For the past several days, I been working at our Community Unit. A certain co-worker I was working with there is a good friend and is usually assigned to be our rover. Anyway, he has a problem. He is addicted to pain medications. I will refer to him as, "PainMan" from here on. A mutual friend of ours once told me that he had some things stolen from his vehicle a few times by painMan, and couldn't believe this guy would do such a thing...I didn't believe it either, as painMan is a nice guy...like I said though, he has problems.

Yesterday, I was running a bit late for Hell. Got outta my vehicle and felt the Persian I got from Ed clipped in my jumpsuit. Took it out, and placed it under a jacket on the backseat of my car. PainMan was working as usual. Staff usually leave their vehicles unlocked as we tend to go to our vehicles to get things or what have you...some take a "breather" for a few minutes just kicking back in their cars.

I had to work from yesterday until today...I hate forced 16+ shifts in Hell. Anyway, when I got home this morning, yup...you guessed it. My Persian was missing...NORMALLY, before leaving the Community Unit to go onto my next shift in Hell, I'd have felt for my Persian, to make sure it was still there. However, emotion got the best of me and I was upset about having to stay another forced 8+ hours in Hell...so i didn't check for it as I was leaving.

I have searched my vehicle as I would a cell shakedown. Several times. I searched my backpack that I bring to Hell several times also. I have looked everywhere...Then I thought about PainMan...Would he? Did he? WTF?!!

This particular :spyder: is very special to me as it was given to me in a "deal of sorts" by the designer himself...Perhaps I got another Persian in the Mystery Contest for this very reason? Doesn't matter though, as it just is not the same Persian... :(

I will investigate this situation further...PainMan lives close by, so I was going to confront him when I got home...but I'd hate to open up a can o' whoop @$$ on him and then *find* my Persian...he's about 5'8", 290-320#'s, and i have trained him before...I just don't wanna believe it, ya know? I mean...stealing sucks, period. Stealing from friends...oh man.

Sorry, my turn to rant and vent...I know he has a "problem addiction", but that ain't no excuse to me IF he took my beloved C83. I'm tired as heck as I could not sleep very well, and wondering where my Persian is, wondering IF PainMan stole it, is getting to me...gonna hit some double end, then kick back and pray about this...

God bless and sorry for the drama.

I hate when things like this happen
If there's something I really don't like is lying (the only thing I won't tolerate to my children) and after this comes stealing
I'd talk to the Pain Man first, (without accusing him, maybe he's innocent after all) and tell him how I can't find my knife and what a special meaning it has to me, and check for his reaction. Maybe the knife appears by itself.
However, if I'd find the knife to be stolen by him, I'll let everyone know. This way he'll be excluded from the gang, at least from a certain point of view.
I wish you good luck Chad, I can perfectly understand you.

Aloha Chad!

You should be POed! If painman didn't steal it, someone else you work with did. I hate being victimized like this. I recently had about $500 worth of stuff taken out of my car at work. Probably a passerby as my parking area has a high pedestrian traffic. I left my doors unlocked. I guess all we can do is make sure our own know right from wrong and respect others.

that's seriously messed-up. hopefully the knife will reappear. alex's idea about talking to him is a good one... although, unfortunately, if your drug-addicted buddy is anything like any of the drug-addicted buddies i've had, that knife will have already been converted into drugs and ingested. :(

i really hope something works out for you, chad. it's really sad and difficult when friends develop serious drug addictions... sometimes harder for the friends than for the addicts. as someone who has frequently been put in similar situations by my own friends, i feel your pain -- and hope that the knife somehow finds its way back to you...

ooo... personally I'd smash heads first and ask questions later.

Lost *2* of the LM sideclip at work in a month, and I knew exactly where it went... told the boss that he took one of them(saw it clipped to his pocket) and the boss alrerady knew I lost one before. The guy got canned and I had the value on my paycheck the next week. Still not the same as getting the knife back but at least the boss prevented bloodshed from the other guy.

Call a staff meeting if you can and bring it up. Let them all know that you aware of stuff going missing and would like to know if anyone has any information. Don't mention the knife unless someone asks directly, just see what comes up without it being mentioned first. WATCH THIER EYES AND HANDS. Blame 6.5yrs of air cadets for this one, but I had to solve a few cases of gear going missing and ppl wreaking havok on other ppl's property constantly. nothing like lining up your peers and superiors along side your subordinantes and "talking" to them all. Get an extra 2-3 ppl in the group to watch them friom the inside and different angles besides your own view.

it's a serious downer to have *anything * go missing, especially when it's sentimental value outweighs any financial restitution. Hope the best for you in this situation.

Aloha guys...

Mahalo much for the advices and for "sharing my pain"...my "outlet" on that double end bag got cut short, as I started to envision the SAME thoughts of VW's!

As Spyderknut mentioned, if it wasn't him, it was someone else I work with. Damn...

Painman already knew how special the Persian was to me...and clovisc is probably right in that it has been "ingested by now". IF he took it that is. I'll give it a few more days...

I'm with Alex on "lying"...

I know a lot of people are thinking, "Chad ya putz, lock your car door!" Well, when you work in Hell, and NO public has access to where you park, things get taken for granted I guess, so lesson learned the hard way.

Sorry again for the drama...and God bless you guys...

Man that sucks. Not as bad as what I first envisioned seeing the title and knowing where you work, but bigtime none the less. Take it there's no chance it could have fallen into "enemy hands". Theft by another staffer is bad enough, but know damn well you'd hate to see your knife wind up in somebody's back. Take it you already pulled out the back seat to check under it, checked all the floor area, etc, as I can tell you from experience that small shiny objects can travel amazing distances at times just from curves, acceleration, and braking.

Aloha Paul,

No, no chance of C83 falling into the hands of the "enemy"...Yep, I tore apart my car like a cell during a shakedown! ;) Nothing. Still, more often than not, I can look for something in a certain area and not find it, then when I look again, sure enough, there it is. :o Like I said, I will give it a few days to "show"...

Have you seen that flick, "Honey I shrunk the Kids"? If you have, I was even searching my yard like how the father was when he was looking for his shrunken kids!

This sucks bro.

God bless

Hello Chad,

damn man, this aint a good story for the begin of my week:(
I can imagine how you feel bro, cause the C83 was a personal gift. :(
I think you got to chat a little with the Painman, but nevertheless, I think whether he took it or not, he will tell ya, that he wasnt it... In my work some things also disappeared suddenly, some phones, cameras, and my chinese bogusewski spike knock off, just for opening envelopes. Yeah, that sucks when someone at your workplace is stealing.
Go and talk with that guy...
Keep an eye on him during the following time, maybe you cant find that C83 again, but you could catch him by some weird action..
I wish you luck, hopefully the Persian comes back to you..

My Dear Chad,

I am so sorry for your loss; losing a favored knife is bad enough, but losing one that has sentimental value is intolerable.

Check with local pawn shops, etc., my friend. You just might find your precious knife there, and then you have a better chance of getting it back.

Prayers that you recover the Persian forthcoming...

Yes it s#cks big time if you get ripped. I'm sorry to hear and hope it wil be solved. Years ago at work, someone nicked my Wayfarer. Why is beyond me for it had prescripted glasses. In fact anybody else cant tel a bird from a747 with these shades on.

Why? There was this colleague of mine during highschool. Nice, cute looking, angelic face, I may say. But he just couldn't go into a shop without stealing something, no matter if it was big or small, cheap or expensive, useful or not. Maybe he just wanted to impress, or I guess we're already talking about cleptomania (I hope this is the right word), which doesn't seem to be Chad's Pain in the @$$ Man's problem.

That is so terrible, when someone you have to trust breaks that trust. Too bad you have no proof about who it was... :(
I'm sure you'll handle the situation fairly and reasonably.
Take care and don't let this drag you down too much.

Chad, really sorry to hear this. I know that one ment a lot to you. I quess there is no video surveilance at the location you parked at. I wish you luck in getting back your knife. Its a real shame what drugs can turn people into. I can't stand a theif and hate liars even more. I would confront Painman and see what he has to say. Good luck.

Dude, I really hope you get it back.

I wonder if there is a way we could all "chip in" and get Chad another Persian (from Ed)?

I'm for it? Say if we all could put in like $3-$5 that should cover it.

Just a thought, depending on what that guy is like, might be more productive to just "let it be known" you think you "lost" something of sentimental value in the parking lot and that there might be a small reward for the "finder". Not nearly as soul-satisfying as pinning the slimeball agaist the wall by the throat and shaking him like a ragdoll, but you can always do that AFTER you have your knife back ;) :D

I'd be in too, for sure. But I do think a lot of the value Chad placed on that particular knife was that, rather than being some sterile specimen off a shelf, it showed obvious signs of having been carried and used by Ed. That's the part that would be well nigh impossible to replicate.

Chad,
The sad thing about addicts it that; no matter how nice a person they are, they can only be trusted to lie, cheat, and steal. Even "if" you find an addict that doesn't do these things, you'll still never know, because they're an addict.

I have said a prayer for you, as well as for painman.

Chad, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, I feel your pain.

The last group of people I trust with my valuables are the people with whom I work; CO's! They will steal everything that's not nailed down. And if it is nailed down, they'll be looking for something to pry those nails up with!!

I have to hide my radio's handset every day, or they'll steal it! The thing with that is, I can't hear very much without it, as it clips to my shoulder epaulet, keeping the set near my ears. With the noise level in the prison, and my terrible hearing, I'm lost without it. They're in short supply these days, so if one lies around for five seconds, it's gone!

That's not all they'll steal, but it was a good example.
I hope you find your knife, brother.

In my 2.5yrs at the tarp factory, I lost:
*1/2 dozen tapemeasures(2 of which the company supplied)
*chalkline(company supplied, replaced with my own)
*far too many xacto's... finally bought a superknife, it went missing with a month to go, bought another one thats got a 10 blade mag on the side['autoload' a new blade] and that gold sold for 1/2 price to my partner
*3-4 pair of scissors[one they took the spring out of and left dead on the table]
*2 LM sideclips

ended up getting an ammo box, and moving it to my car after every shift... and using my car alarm 24/7 even though I was within sight of my car at work.
