This time it was trying to butter my daughter's piece of toast with a SpyderEdge ATR. Of course for my lack of respect ...it bit me on the thumb.

This wasn't such a bad bite, just a band-aid worth.

Had a Harpy bite me across the palm as I attempted a one handed close with wet hands.

And had my Spyderfly get me across the backs of my knuckles as I pretended to be a better flipper than I actually am.

What are your top three Spyder-bites?

I dropped the my Military on my leg. My guess is it would have been 15 or so stitches. I didn't go to the doctor because I didn't think it was necessary. Now I have a 2 square inch scar on my shin. It took about a month to heal.

When I took the bandage off it looked like the skin was folded under itself. My guess is the tip of the blade sunk in about an inch or so the handle set it off balance and it fell out cutting me more on the way out. My sandle was completly full of blood. I was camping too and it was around midnight. I walked up to our camp site, grabbed a towel, rapped it around, then bandaged it. I then had a beer and went to sleep.

Every :spyder: I currently use has bit me at least once. Its almost like a rite of passage for my knives, they can't become users until they have tasted blood. Until they do, they're safe queense :D

Had a Harpy nick the base of my pinky finger trying to close one handed (it was my first attempt at one handed closing)

Native III bit me doing the same thing (I've since learned to respect the :spyder: )

I had a Renegade that I swear had it in for me. It always seemed to slip in my hands, that one bit me about 4 times, so I sold the B****.

Waved Endura has bit my several times, but that is completely due to my own stupidity in trying to close the knife and forgetting to move my finger.

I'm starting to believe that the more I cut myself, the harder it gets to cut in the first place, the skin keeps growing back tougher, I keep this up, I'll have a turtle shell on the tips of my fingers. :D

only been bitten by a spydie once... by my first spydie, a chinook II, during the first hour of playing with it. the blade arrived loose enough that i could flick it open, and then flick it shut again when i pressed the lock... so of course, i was doing some very dramatic opens and shuts...

after messing around with it for a while, decided i was done playing for a bit. i pressed the lock, to close it CAREFULLY... but i was holding it at the wrong angle, and gravity made the blade come swinging shut... the serrations swinging right onto the top of my thumb. it wasn't that bad, though - nothing a band aid couldn't handle.

but yea -- in spite of lots of playing around with them -- my one and only spyerbite so far!

I've nicked myself with knives many times, but all my serious cuts have been from other objects(serious meaning a hospital visit and stitches.)

I once sliced my index finger open with a chisel. That took three stitches.
Then I stepped on a tin can which cut my foot open. That was 12 stitches.

Aloha Jenner,

Having a PE Police unlock on me and having it slide across and into my index finger during a thrust into a stack of cardboard.

Hand slippery from training the draw on my Endura SE, bit on the thumb.

Don't have a third...yet. Not that I remember... Came close with my Warren Thomas Karambit a few times!

Be safe all and God bless

sometimes i close my knife but holding the back lock swinging it to my knuckle and then for the rest by pushing it against my pants while putting it in my pocket, sometiems i do it too fast and dont fold anyof it and end up stabbing myself in the thigh. other then that when i get a new knife i sumtimes have my thumb too far down and swing the knive down to hard and chop right into my bone

I've had little ones but here's my best. Year and a half ago, Ronin. Little further than halfway through my pinkie. 6 stitches. It literally splurted blood on the wall when it happened. I just wrapped up my finger, washed up the blood, ate dinner, then got a ride to the hospital. I didn't even look at it. Just said "please fix it". Now there's a minor scar, and slight numbness near the tip.

I think your ATR is developing diva-like tendencies ... how can it be disrespectful to butter a toast? It's name implies it will do ANY job!
Send it to me for safe disposal. :D

Actually, I can't remember any noteworthy cuts on my Spyders.
But another knife, an assisted opener a friend wanted to sell me, bit me badly. What I didn't know: The mechanism not only flips the knife open after opening it a bit, it also PULLS THE BLADE IN when closing!
Obviously I was unprepared and had a finger in the way. :o
It suddenly dawned on me why my friend wanted to get rid of the knife; he also told me the design never sold well and we had a good laugh.
I think he still has it. :p

The Only thing that sucks when you get cut is. Depending on Insurance i have Blue cross blue Shield, Its a dahm $35 co-pay for each emergency room visit. so just 2 Visits, is a brand new Knife.

Sometimes cuts are just to dahm big to handle alone.

Haven't been bitten by a Spyder once. Only sliced my skin open a bit without bleeding. I've learned my lesson about touching a sharpened knife on the edge :) .
But last week on an international exchange, I lend my Delica to the 'kitchen people'. They forgot to bring knives to cut the bread and vegetables, so out came my Vic and :spyder: . I was very surprised how easily the Delica cuts baguettes, no sawing move required  .
But as you can guess, all three of them got a little cut. Just two small slices and a light stab in the handpalm, but my Delica finally tasted blood :D .

Talon, the close up of those pinky stitches is awesome...that needs to be on an CD cover or something.

Yeah ATR At The Ready would imply that I could do basic things with it (sigh) maybe its operator error.

Other than that great knife, I think I'll hold onto it.

I've had some minor :spyder: bites, but nothing major....yet :D
I've told this twice before, but here goes again:
I had just finished my torture test of a Native I in 440v, CE, (not the BRK), and had spent the previous evening getting it as sharp as I had ever gotten a knife, useing the old-style 204. This was about three years ago when I first heard the term "scary-sharp", and that is what I was going for; I got it :)
Anyway, my helper came in the next day and I told him I had reached the state (my Native, actually) of "scary sharp".
He says something like "Well, I gota see this', so I handed him the Native with the warning that it was -very- sharp. He opened it, and before I could stop him, he ran the edge accross his palm...........
Blood welled up from the high spots (calluses), and he said something like "Oops"
I checked his hand and he had basically leveled a line accross his palm, not cutting below the ridges. No stitches but a lot of pain (from what he said).
I told him that had to be the dumbest thing I'd ever seen (It wasn't but, JEEESH!). I showed him the fingernail test. I wish I'd taken pictures, but I didn't let him forget it....for a long time  .

Playing around with a Yo, when I should have been in bed (about 1:30 am). Was still thinking about a problem from work, and needed something to play with.....I always need something to play with when I think....ok that didn't come out right.... :p. Anyways, dropped it while indexing and was immediately concerned about the tip, but tip was ok. Didn't notice anything else, but then my leg started to itch so I wanted to scratch...didn't go away and I pulled up my long pants (was wearing sweat pants) and the Yo had neatly sliced through the pants right into my leg. Very clean cut, didn't hurt a bit. About 2 in long 3/8 deep, didn't bleed much, was too clean to make a mess, but it looked pretty nasty the way it opened up. Of course that would require stitches, but like the rest here, I am not an emergency room guy (and at 2 am doctors are usually unavailable). So I did the next best thing: I took athletes tape (everybody should have athletes tape handy, I love that stuff), pressed the cut together and taped it shut and did my best to REALLY get the two sides together. And then used multiple layers of athletes tape on top of that to really immobilize the skin around the area. Nothing underneath, the tape right on top of the cut. Reduces the bleeding and the blood drying in the tape actually holds the wound together further. Healt up perfectly. Stitches couldn't have done a better job. Healed really fast too because it was such a clean cut.

I've only ad some minor ones, and i only have one big one. i am suer two and three are on their way. My first and only only happened no more than a month age when i was at work. I went to close my delica with one hand and it almost took the tip of my index finger off. the funny part of it, is that I didn't even know that i cut my finger until i took my hand out my pocket and my knife was attached to it :D  :D .

It's kinda neat how a razor sharp cut doesn't hurt till you notice it. I didn't feel mine till I felt something dripping down my leg.

I hate stitches. I don't think they're worth the hassle unless it's something you could die from. The stupid doctors usually have to stab you with the novacaine needle 20x to "numb it" and then it bruises up where they do this and makes it hurt more the next day. Then they want you to come back to have them removed. If there's any way I can patch a wound up on my own, I'm going to do it from now on. I would have gone to the doctor with that pinky wound too talonturbo. That thing looks like they reattached it

Last time I got stitches (not :spyder: related) the old doctor put an extra one in there that didn't even hold the wound together. Someone told me it was an "anchor" but then the next day it fell out on it's own.

HoB: Is the athletes tape you speak of, white cloth tape? I call it mueller tape, because that's what it says on the roll. That stuff is excellent and incredbly sticky.

HoB

Yes, it is white cloth tape, slightly elastic, but it not all that sticky, compared to Duct tape for example. It holds well, when it is at body temp. Usually I put it it on and then hold it in place by pressing it to the skin with my whole hand till it warms up (30 sec maybe?). If it is not on a high wear area it will survive even a shower, but can be removed pretty easily under a shower as well. Its what athletes use to tape up ankles, wrists, etc. The advantage is, it breathes. It's available in every supermarket. I think the one I buy is from Johnson&Johnson.

my paramillie bit me about 30 seconds after i got it - pretty deep but i didnt need stitches
all my other spydie bites have been pretty tame - normally just letting me know that they want some attention
all my deep cuts have been done by other knives

My worst cut was not with a Spyder though. When I was a printer I was cutting foil with a very sharp Opinel(the only knife that was allowed back then) A co-worker asked me to help him lift something. So I put the opened knife in my right frond pocket(I know very stupid) and helped my collegue. When I came back to my press I was totally forgotten about the knife. When I pushed myself up(backwards) to sit for a while on my working table(the press was running smoothly) the knife stabbed about an inch into my underarm. A half hour later I was up 3 stitches and a sore underarm. When I touch the scar I can still feel it in my wrist. This happened about 10 years ago.
I've been bitten by only 2 Spyders. First my NativeIII and my ManixCE. In both cases the blade fell on my knuckels after pressing the lockback and holding my fingers where they don't belong. These were minor cuts.
