Was there ever a spyderco knife with smaller serrations? Or has it allways been the same edge type
I know for example that cutco knives, (which I am no very fond of) feel sharper than they really are because of less pernounced serrations, enven though they feel sharper I do not believe they would be good for heavy use. Is this oppion shared?
I love the spyderedge, but a lot of people i think, would have a false idea that the spyderedge is not as sharp as it really is because when cutting something stupid like small string it would not appear as sharp because, well.... you guys know what i mean... Honestly I do not care what they think. I guess I am just frustrated with people who jump to conclusions---- THE FEWER THE FACTS THE STRONGER THE OPINION--- ( most of the time)

We have made smaller serrations at various times for various models. Generally, our serrations run in a narrow size range.
"feeling" an edge tells you very little about how "really sharp" it is. The nerve endings in your fingers are too far apart to distinguish a rough edge from a sharp edge.
What is it that you are trying to figure out?

Sal,
Thanks for the detailed answer. I am sorry for asking such a confusing question, I do not want to interupt with stupid questions. I was trying to figure out if there is a difference in a knives edge consequence to their steel, i am not trying to say there is, just trying to figure out why my native was not as sharp as my endura--- again thankyou for your patience with me trying to make sense of a few things.
I handled the chinook today, and boy what a knife! Before I could make my decision on my next knife I would have handle the millitary and wegner, which the knifeshop owner told me I would find either, I would just have to order and hope. I do not think this true. Is it?

fisherman -- I'm not quite able to follow what you're asking in your last post. Could you please clarify?
It is great if one has the ability to handle the exact knife one wishes to purchase. Unfortunately, that privilege is usually quite expensive. Am I correct in saying that the store owner with whom you spoke said he/she would order either the Wegner or the Military, but you were stuck with whatever imperfections might show up?
If so, I'd smile sweetly at this merchant, and buy from one of the reputable web dealers. Almost certain to be less expensive. Also, Spyderco has an enviable QC reputation. It is only very rarely that someone states they have found a significant flaw in any Spyderco, in my time on the forums.
Some web vendors will promise to take your knife out of the box and check it out, before sending it to you. Presumably, they'd not send you one with any significant problems.
Again, the sharpness out of the box is important, particularly if you, as I do, believe that mastering the essences should be done before going on to the fancy things. A knife is made to cut. If a new knife won't cut, then it should be returned to either the dealer or the manufacturer, so the problem can be corrected.
On the other hand, dullness of a blade is the easiest problem for an owner to fix. If everything else is just fine about the knife, as soon as you've sharpened it, it then is perfect.
Again, if I'm not grasping at all what you're asking, could you please re-word your questions?

Hey Fisherman. thanx for the input. The reason that your Native is not as sharp is becuase Mikey didn't get it as sharp (for some reason?)
All of our knives are hand sharpened by very skilled craftsmen both in Golden and in Seki.
It is very difficult to make them as sharp as we do knife after knife after knife.
As mentioned, we'd be happy to take it back (& razz Mikey).

Hand Sharpened!!!!!!!!!!, woaw, I saw the vid last night (got it yesterday) and saw ya guys sharpening them, I would have thought it would be done by machine.
Too be honest I personally prefer having everything done by hand, a machine cant do the work a human can as far as quality is concerned, not yet anyways.
My native has a 35/65 combo edge (as I asked for from Gideon) the plain edge (35) is razor sharp yet I admit the SpyderEge (65) didnt feel anything like my Matriarch/Civilian/Harpy's edge, yet when I tried it today, it sliced through cable asif it was made out of cheese, feeling with the thumb cant be trusted all the time I guess.

anyone who knows,
How long does it usually take a knife to be sharpened by Mikey? How Long would it take for me to send my native in to be sharpened. Currently this is my only spyderco, and I dont know when I will be able to get my next one. I hope it will not be long!
Thanks fisherman
Fisherman. It should have been sharp when you got it. I guess pobody's nerfect.
Send it to Olive's attention, we'll get it right back to you.

Sal,
I am not trying to say the knife was not sharp because it was, just not stupidly sharp like spyderco is normally. Everything else on the knife was the upmost quality.
