Maybe people are saving up for some of the new stuff comming out. Still, I do find it intriging that no one bid on it.

I never bid on an auction with a reserve.

Why is it so difficult to realize that the fact that one or two people existed who were willing to pay absurdly high prices for a specific item cannot be taken as an indicator that said price was ever realistic. We are, after all, speaking of an item than had an MSRP of $350 a mere two years ago. We are talking an item that is, despite some eBay seller's advertising hype, not particularly "rare" and, ironically, is far less likely to ever become rare than something like the burgundy FRN Calypso Jr. Relatively low production plus "attrition" from use will eventually cause the supply of some models, like the ZDP Caly Jr to shrink, perhaps even to the point of genuine rarity. This will never happen with "instant collectables" like the 25th Ann. Delica.
My "guess" is that, the supply of people who consider the C76 to have a current value of more than $400 is VERY limited and may very well have been exhausted in the flurry of auctions for them this year.
That, coupled with the assumption by others that a combination of a BIN price and a reserve usually indicates that the reserve will be within 10% of the BIN, may have caused some to pass on the auction.
Limiting the sales to US buyers probably did not help the seller either. A fair percentage of the "high rollers" in Spyderco auctions this year have been overseas buyers taking advantage of the favorable exchange rate. By shutting them out, a seller will almost inevitably cost themself money on high ticket, collectable, Spydercos.
Finally, but admitted less likely, at least some folks are getting a bit fed up with hyperbolic ads, and/or fear that a seller's assessment of condition may be as overstated as "This is the rarest of all Spydercos and it's literally impossible to find one for sale anywhere at any price..". Hip boots anyone? Count the number of auctions for 25th Anniversary Delicas since Jan 1 of this year. Now count the number of auctions for ALL the items on this list...
Blanchard "Flying Eagle" Police
Plain Edge Harpy
Plain Edge Left Hand Harpy
Plain Edge 1st Generation (unbeveled handle) Mariner
PE C16 Micarta Goddard
PE SpyderKey, any handle material
Paramedic
Which number is larger?
The combined total of auctions for the knives on that list is smaller than the number of C76s that have gone on the block in the same time period. What's more, I could probably add ten more items to that list without significantly changing the result.

Yes, certainly there are rarer Spyderco knives. No doubt. I would love a Flying Eagle Police one day. I do think the 25th Delica is special enough to warrant a bid. Mind you, I was not going to pay the BIN price, but more than MSRP. I think it is a buyer's market right now. With all the new models out and the forum knife, some folks are a little strapped right now. I do wish there had not been a reserve on this one. That would have been a bargain IMO. :)

Don't worry Paul, I'm sure a few those will go up on e-bay someday. ;)

This is a great statement you have illustrated here, and one which I have recently found frustrating.
I often browse through U.S. e-bay looking for Spydie's, and lately I have seen a few models which I really wish to acquire, only to find that the seller only ships to the U.S. It frustrates me as I am willing to pay often double the amount it is sold for, and yet the seller would prefer to recieve a lower price just so they can ship it within the U.S.
I've become interested in Spyderco's hawkbill knives, and there is a blue, plain-edge Spyderhawk on auction, and yet it is U.S. only, and it is sad watching the auction price at a level of which I would more than happily meet/increase. :( *sigh* I really do like that knife alot, and I cannot believe that there was a Forum model which did not sell.... 'tis a shame, for I think it looks great! and I really want a blue, pe spyderhawk.

Infamous,
Unless a seller states explicitly that (s)he will not ship outside the US you can always ask if (s)he is willing to ship to you.
Quite a few will if you ask them.

Some eBay sellers and internet merchants have read the horror stories, on the eBay forums and elsewhere, of buyers, primarily, but not exculsively in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and North Africa, who have paid for high ticket, and even fairly modestly priced, items with phony credit cards. Some have experienced such chicanery firsthand. The simplest solution, and in some ways the least offensive, is to just say "US Sales only". Saying "Please do not bid if you are from *******, %%%%%%, or @@@@ is more likely to arouse questions of prejudice.
Some have heard the horrors stories, of foreign postal services where outright theft is rampant or at least was at some time in the past. Can remember from when I was a kid sending small Christmas presents each October to relatives in Denmark and Italy. The ones to Denmark always got there, sometimes in November, sometimes in March, but alway eventually. The ones to Italy were a craps-shoot, in a good year, half made it. Now maybe that has changed in the past forty some years, but even today I would be more hestiant to ship something to Italy, except by Express Mail where there is a high degree of traceability, than to Denmark.
Then there are those who sell regularly, did ship to other countries, but grew weary of some overseas buyers becoming huffy, and even backing out of deals, when they refused to label a $300 purchase as a $5 gift. Again, "US Sales only" solves the problem for them.
Finally there's the group who is totally clueless as to what is involved in shipping overseas and has either been misinformed or just assumes that it is so much more difficult that domestic mailing as to not be worth the effort. I had one otherwise intelligent person ask me if I had to go to a particular post office to mail things overseas. They were not sure the service was available from all branches. Had another ask me, in all seriousness, where I had to go to get a customs declaration notarized.
Don't worry Paul, I'm sure a few those will go up on e-bay someday. Mike,
Am sure at least some of them will. I've seen "most" of the ones I listed there at least once in the two years I've been haunting eBay. Was even high bidder on one of them. :D Point was just that, in the same timeframe there has been an average of better than one C76 a month offered.
I do think the 25th Delica is special enough to warrant a bid. Mind you, I was not going to pay the BIN price, but more than MSRP. Fully agree spyderknut,
Frankly, if it had not been for a few other things going on right now, I might have tossed out a bid in the MSRP +-10% range myself. You did the sensible thing, no question about that.

As Paul said, with worldwide shipping, he would have sold it for the double at least... I know it cause I would have been the one making the bid ;)

I could have and wish I did get one when they came out for 239.95.
I don't think I would pay over 300.00 for one, like The Deacon said there were 500 made and there will allways be 500 of them.
I had thought at one time trying to trade a Classic wood Sebenza for one and that would be getting me into one for around 425.00,never have gone ahead and tried to offer it though.
