" 5. "Gravity knife" means any knife which has a blade which is released from the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever or other device. "



anyone well-versed in physics knows that there is no such thing as centrifugal force...



"no officer, my knife does not open on applicatino of centrifugal force."



now, centripetal force is another story... anyone know if this technicality would hold up in court? (just something i bumbled across looking up legal stuff for my purchase)

The basic fear that caused all of these laws is "instant knife" or "instant lethal potential" that might face a law enforcement professional.

unfortunately illogical. "lets make a law to keep law breakers from doing something against the law?"

Let's instead teach all Law enforcement professionals MBC & Gunting.

oh, i completely agree... its the same reasoning that anti-gun people use.

i was just wondering if the wording of this definition, in the NY lawbooks, openned up a loophole. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

It's a sad fact that most of these types of laws have more of a detrimental effect on the responsible owners / users than they do on the shadier element of society.

I used to be a member of a .22 rifle and pistol club that had to close down because they could not afford the construction costs needed to bring the range up to security level imposed by the new laws brought in after a deranged person went mad with a gun in another part of the country. The gun in question was an AK-47, which is TOTALLY illigal in this country.
