An all-time Spydie classic. One of the best all around folders available anywhere at any price. Really!

Utility, defense, hunting, camping...it does it all quite well.

Not fancy or extremely cool, but will do almost anything you ask of it. Maybe that does make it cool? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I still haven't gotten mine back from a friend that I loaned mine to over two years ago. He hunts moose &amp; elk regularly and swears by the Wegner.

Hope this helps,

Steve

One word:

The Wegner is one heckofa work knife. I have never seen a folding blade that thick. I think that it even beats the Tomcat and Stingray by SOG.

fisherman -- i got my serrated military in today and it is a great knife, but i still have to go with the wegner the ergonomics of the handle are so good: i feel a hurrican couldn't rip it from my grip. hope you find one to try.

Just prior to reading this thread, I posted the following on the thread below it on the list:
Running close behind the Native for favorite, is my Wegner. I've carried it a bit, and will carry it more. There is something about the knife that seems to have more personality than almost any of my knives. I haven't used it much, but I just &quot;know&quot; from handling it, how versatile it is, and how good it would be in a self-defense role. I'm even getting to the point of thinking it is pretty good looking, which is substantially different than my initial impression of it.

My Wegner was quite stiff when I got it. I've lubed it and worked it to a fare-thee-well, but it remains the most difficult to open of all the knives I own. But, it isn't at the level where it is a strain or anything. I tend to think that the pivot screw was given a last quarter turn it didn't need it.

As simply as possible, if you'll give the Wegner time to grow on you -- Work it, use it, carry it -- I have no doubts you'll be congratulating yourself on a very wise purchase. Go for it!

Hey Fisherman,
My Tim Wegner was my first Spydie and I have always loved it. I found The Stare's comments about opening the blade interesting because I've found the exact opposite. I wonder if he's right about that quarter turn ;-)
Anyway, I highly recommend the knife. Even though I now own several Spydie's, this is still my fav. Also, I've heard a rumor that it will soon be discontinued for a slightly smaller version - don't know if that's actually true or not, but something to keep in mind.
