Last month I purchase a Gunting, had no serial number on the blade. Purchased another one today which had a serial number '798'.

Can anyone tell me what is up with this?

Sure Kevin,

The entire first run of many of the "custom maker collaboration" model Spydercos were numbered. Since the Gunting was a collaboration with Bram Frank, it falls into that category.

As Deacon pointed out, the first production run of the Gunting was numbered. To my knowledge, the numbered Guntings were all 440V PE, with the black clip. There were limited black clips after that first run, and were eventually phased out due to cosmetic issues(the black clip doesn't stay black very long). All the 440V CE, and all the S30V models, both PE and CE all had silver clips and went unnumbered.

I have two numbered Guntings. They are both 440V PLain Edge. One has a silver clip(number 042), and the other one has a black clip(number 937). Hope this information straighten the matter out and doesn't confuse the matter even futher. Haha

Interesting.

Anyone else have one of these? Perhaps the collector's club knives were silver clipped. I find that odd though, as later unnumbered runs were still black clipped.

Collectors get their knives, a couple of them post pics on the forums, someone comments on the "silver clip on a tactical folder" issue :rolleyes:, some more chime in agreeing, so Sal gets a bunch of clips blackened. Naturally, that change in turn empowers a new group of critics, who opine how the color wears off the blackened ones. ;)

Very possible Deacon, I wonder if anyone else has a low numbered Gunting with a silver clip.

I was under the impression they were initially run with black clips, and change to silver later, it appears I was wrong. They may have started with silver, switched to black, and ended up silver again.

So...by "entire first run", does that mean the whole batch? (1200 units) Or can a "run" be any amount, like 500, 600, etc... :confused:
