View Full Version : Poliwog?
Was leafing through a knife mag at Barnes & Noble bookstore yesterday, and saw a new Spydie advertised. It was called the Poliwog, and it looked nice! I'd describe it as a sort of short, bulldog version of a Native.
It had a spearpoint-type blade, which was short (around 2 1/2 inches). The handle looked very ergonomic. Overall, it seemed to be an excellent little knife! Very appealing to me.
Anyone know about it? I looked in the Spyderco catalog, but didn't see anything about it.

My Dear Friend,
The Poliwog is a new Spyderco knife design by Eric Glesser; I am in possession of one and accord it rave reviews. Do a quick forum search and you will turn up more information about it. Well worth acquiring one, IMNSHO.

Thanks, Hannibal. What's the price point?

Jim, street price is about $95. This should give you an idea how it compares, sizewise, with the Native and Native III...

Note that those lines that look like weird grinds at the front of the handle are due to a piece of clear plastic "tape" Spyderco puts on the stainless handle to protect it.

Hello Jim,
I can't believe this one snuck by you! Since I always thought of it as a cross between a Native and a Dodo, I figured that would definitely put it on your want list. IIRC, there has already been a review done on it by a fellow forumite.
Thanks for the info, guys.
Deacon....geez, man, that trio in your photo made me fall in love!!!! I LOVE that blue-FRN Native!! And the Poliwog! Great-looking knives!!!
The only thing that I wish is that the Poliwog wouldn't have it's back arched so sharply...I'd like one that was straighter, like the Native. Still, it's on my want list.

Yep, this one snuck right by me. Truthfully, there are so many new Spydies coming out regularly, and my time is limited, so it's not unusual for one to sneak by.
I really like this one a lot, and it's just like you said; a cross between a Native and a Dodo. I like your description.
Hopefully, in a couple of years, when my finances come back, and if it's not discontinued, I'll be able to pick one up. Unfortunately, I don't see me being able to afford one any time soon.
