My birthday is coming up October 21, and I'm not sure which knife I should get next.
I have a Chinook II, and I would like something that is:
-More than a 3" blade
-Preferably not FRN handles
-Good blade steel
-Strong lock
-Not necessarily a Spyderco (if that is ok to discuss?)
Thanks guys. I've looked into the Persian, but I dunno - it might be too similar to the Chinook. I also like the look of Bob Lum's folders, but I am open to suggestions.

How about a Mini Manix?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The 75mm Persian might be a bit small, and the Mini Manix is kinda similar to the a Chinook.
Plus I don't think I could get either of them by Oct. 21.

You'll definitelly be able to get a ParaMillie by then. ~3.25" S30V Blade, G10 handles, Compression lock.

Stretch might be a good one for you. The Persian is to the Chinook II as a Jeep Grand Cherokee is to a Hummer, so it might really be worth considering as well. If you're right handed, both the Military and the ParaMilitary would be worth looking at. And, if you'd like something super light and decently strong, check out the R2.

R2
The R2 is different than the knives you own. But, different can be good sometimes too... At about $75, the price is also good! :)

ATR is my vote. That thing was so incredibly smooth when I handled it.

You just simply can't go wrong with a combo edged S30V Military model. I have 2 of them and for that size of knife they are truly the "cat's meow".
IF you want to be a little more exotic then go dig up a Spyderhawk SE. It doesn't get much better than that ;) :spyder:

Paramilitary highly recommended!

Aloha DJango,
I say C83 Persian...similar in blade style, but man, you have got to experience the handle on this one to truly appreciate the ergonomics of this knife. It has been my *main* only carry folder for awhile now, and that says something about it... ;)
Military is good also, very light and strong from what I have experienced with mine.
OTOH, you could always go for *several* models of the Byrd, and still have moola left over to party! ;)
God bless

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say if you like the ChinookII then get a Manix...one big knife that will do it all.....Doc :D

I dare to say you'll notice a big difference between the Chinook and the Persian should you'll give it a chance.
However, I'd suggest the Military (Paramillie is OK too), or a Howard Viele.

Paramilitary or the Persian would be my first choices followed by the R2 or the Stretch. Let us know what you end up with and have a great birthday.

I would suggest the paramilitary or the Spyderco Spyker both are topnotch and well worth owning. I sure would like such gift for my birthday.......
The Spyker is a realy great knife. At AAPK.com it's $ 130.00
For what its worth, at this moment, the Spyker is my most playable/flickable :spyder:

I would go with the fully serrated Military. I think it's still the best knife Spyderco made so far :)

While all the suggestions are good ones I still like your own one best. If you can get yourself a Bob Lum folder you will have a happy birthday for sure.

What do you guys think of the JD Smith?
I like the blade style, the handle, Micarta is a plus. Perfect size.
I can get it here http://www.knifesite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2650
for $105.
Is that a good deal? Please tell me about this knife.
