Aloha ALL,
I think I may be in the minority here but I will surely miss the current design of the C10 and C11.
I "grew up" with the Integrated Clip versions in G2 and AUS8 Stainless. These posessed a full in hand feeling, were light and strong, very low maintenance. I thanked God for making me right handed! Then they "evolved"...
Flatter profile, improved Volcano Grip, reversible clip, and ATS55 steel! WOW...I had figured that there was not much more :spyder: could do to this pair of winners. These took awhile to get used to, as I was used to that "full in hand feeling" that only users of the old integrated clipped models knew and appreciated. Big plus with these "new models" was that I could change from right hand carry to left hand using a coin to change the clip location. As I had already mentioned, not much more to do to this design, as it was darn near perfect IMHO. So :spyder: throws on a flat grind, adds the Boye Dent, changes steel. Cool.
Now they have gone. Everything has changed but the name of these models. Grip lines, blade shape, handle pattern design, four way clip carry ala three screws, steel liners, texturing behind hump. I welcome the texture on the hump, but the rest...I dunno. I only posted once on the thread revealing the "new" C10 and C11. I didn't jump for joy and throw them at the top of that :spyder: wish list. I guess I have become SO accustomed to these fine :spyder: Classics and remember them the "way they were". It's going to feel weird showing these new ones to old school users of the C10 or C11 and have them not be able to i.d. them anymore. I mean, I could show a guy the Delica and they'd know it was one. Same with the Endura. Same with the Police for that matter. I suppose what I said in the byrd Slogan contest is true: "...evolution continues."
I don't know what I am trying to say here. No matter how good the new versions of the C10 and C11 are, I will miss the old, classic versions. After sharing YEARS of my life with them at work and play...how could I not? :(
Sorry for the drama, thanks for reading, and God bless
daywalker, i completely understand. :(
those are classic and will only become more so.
i have always loved the shape of the blade of the endura and delica, more so a fan of the delica. (can't get enough of the police either) :D
someday some of those more "oddball" models of the delica will be selling for a pretty penny compared to now. ;)

Better buy some of the old one's up before they're gone.
It reminds me of some of the half life mods I've played. The first version was pure, it was the creators vision of it. Then the creator opened it up to suggestions. The game became more complicated, too many features were added, it became unrealistically realistic.
I don't think what's happening to the delica and endura is bad, like what I've seen happen to day of defeat. I'm only concerned about the blade shape.
They're only gone if you stop using them....

Understand your feelings Chad. I dread the thought of the Kiwi changing, since I'm enough of a cynic to figure any change is more likely to depress me than to exicte me. On the other hand, I know, deep down that somewhere down the road it will either change, or disappear from the lineup. That's the way it's been for every other Spyderco.
As has already been pointed out, the current versions of the Delica and Endura should be available for some time. Plus, perhaps once you get to handle the new ones, you'll appreciate at least some of the other "improvements".

No stopping progress, try as we might. we fear the change but I'll bet we all end up loving the new ones, and cherishing the old ones. :spyder:

I bought a Endura about the first month or so they were being made (early 90's, I think) and I carried a Delica (old integrated clip, but "fat" version) the day my son was born. I have it in a safe to give to him someday.
I am giddy about the new models! I think they are cool.
But I can understand being a bit misty about it, however...

I’m almost with you there DAYWALKER. I’m definitely going to miss the old tip; since that was one of the things I liked so much about the line. I keep thinking that I need to pick up another Endura before the current style disappears. I actually thought some of the “old school” types like you would appreciate the rounded but of the newer handles  . Sal said they had “improved ergos”, so I’m taking a “wait and see” attitude on those, and the extra weight, which he said is only 17% more. Yeah, I like the old ones, but I guess I’m trusting enough in the company to keep a somewhat open mind about the new ones.

I'm going to have to pick up some old stock from my local when I have cash.... don't think my leather rig will fit the new model, it was molded for my 98 model.
ats-55 is getting rare these days.

Howzit guys!
Thanks for reading and replying. For the most part, I guess I didn't have to *know* how to explain what I am feeling, as most of the replies speak for themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I knew that eventually this would happen to part of the "Legend Line Up", the "Dynamic Duo" of :spyder: . However, knowing it would happen and actually seeing it happen are two different things.
Who knows? I may actually like these new and "improved" models of the C10 and C11. I'm just gonna badly miss the lines that I "grew up" with...

Aloha ghostrider,
Maybe some of us "old schoolers" are all gung ho for these newer models, but not me. I liked the butt of the Integrated FRN versions just fine, and I feel the same about the current model's butts! :p
Weight is of no concern for me...I have carried some klunkers back in the day, but what is a concern is the liners. Living where I do, having a strong linerless folder like these C10's and 11's were God sends! The less metal parts the better! I once had a BM folder that had such liners, and when I took it apart for a "curiousity cleaning", *WHOA*!!! The liners were corroded! Ah well, I guess that's why I find the H1 models so appealing.
I too, am keeping an open mind towards these "improved" models, but after being with the older and current ones for so long, I am gonna miss them.
God bless bro

You said it best Chad, evolution continues.
But that doesn't mean you have to like it ;) I personally am a big fan of liners, but I also live in a much less corrosive environment as you(a couple hundred miles from saltwater gives me a little bit of leeway). Seeing the new designs of the C10 and C11, I have to admit, I was definitely excited. FRN, Dual liners, 4 way clip, and VG-10 blade steel are the perfect combination for me, but that is a little selfish of me, especially since i'm not the only knife buyer around ;)
That being said, I am pretty sure there are many others who agree with you. I liked the older tip, and I'll admit that I know what you're talking about when you mention the "full handed" feeling of an integral clip. And the butt of an integral clip can do so much better at impacting. But who knows, maybe the new models will be just as efficient.
It could end up being great news for you, if this style picks up momentum, perhaps Sal would do dual linered Salt knives, with H-1 liners. The ultimate heavy duty rust free knife, perfect for the not so knife friendly air over there
For now, start hoarding bro ;) Should I send you a couple old style Delicas before they disappear? :D

I know what you mean DAYWALKER. :( I especially like the tip design on the old ones much better. The old models look better too. But we will have too see what the new ones are like.

I know what you mean, brother. I, too, got into Spydies when I bought my first Delica (a 96), and like you, missed the "palm swell" that the integral clip and extended pivot covering provided when the then "new versions" came out. However, I found that I really appreciated the reversible metal clip and the more pronounced "volcano grip". I just couldn't believe I had ever gone without these new features.
When I got my Endura-Wave, I found out that I loved the even more pronounced "volcano grip", and couldn't figure out how I ever lived without the "spine-texturing" behind the hole (on the thumb ramp) and the sturdier tip.
While I know I'll be sad to see the current models go, I can only imagine the appreciation I'm going to have for the new features these babies will pack. I'd be willing to bet that you're going to, at some point in the near future, post about how much you like the new models, too. That's just the way Spyderco works. They innovate......and we buy! ;)
God's Blessings,

I am pretty excited about the new designs myself. If I could blend a little of the new with a little of the old, and add a different handle material, I think I'd have my perfect knife.
I really like the old blade style and 12mm hole, I also enjoy the blocky handle on the old version. The new has the jimping, the screw construction, the new clip + carry, all which I like. I am still iffy on the liners myself. We'll see in a few months how it all pans out.
Luckily for you Chad, you won't have a super hard time finding the older models for years to come. Since so many were made, and it will be a long long long time until they are a collectors item, I bet you could just make a post on BF or something for one if you need a replacement and have no trouble at all getting responses.
Overall, I think I will like the new one a lil' bit better than the old, but I've got to get my paws on one before I make any claims, I will definitely miss the old blade shape and hole size.

I think Dialex's "Dialica" was the *perfect* design...
We'll see though. So instead of buying a training drone, what, do we just swap blades now?

I agree with you on the Dialica. I'd only change it to allow 4-way wire carry, and screw construction (just in case I wanted to get aftermarket handle slabs in g-10 or something).
I asked Kristi about doing the swapping of blades and she said not possible. Now, I don't know if that was a "No, don't do it, we don't want to get in trouble when you break your knife or hurt yourself" or if she really meant "no, it is physically impossible to do the swap".

Good to see you as well! I've been busting my tail, my friend. The PD I work for (a college campus) is really hurting for people! We're a small dept. to begin with, but we're working with a really small crew. With one of our guys (fully staffed we have 6 officers) on his R&R (3 months) after just getting back from the sandbox, and two positions unfilled, my life is all about work these days. How about you, buddy?
Thanks for relating...you described what I liked about the old Integrated models perfectly.
No problem, same things I miss/missed about the "old" models.

Chad,
I feel the same way. Classics shouldnt have been gone. The new pattern is great but, I think it was worth a new name, to come out as a new spyderco. Not as Delica and Endura. After our mails, I decided to go for the C10PBK as it is now in VG10, untill I can. A friend of ours hopefully manages;) The new pattern is good, but I will also miss those great ones. Its like Porsche would stop making the 911. I understand that evolution goes on, but these are new models, not evoluted classics.

Were you a user of the old FRN Integrated clip models? Hmmmmmm...at least *you* are applying Yoda's teaching to Anakin in E3: "Mourn them do not. Miss them do not." :(
It's just gonna be weird opening a Spyderco Catalog and not seeing the "lines" of the C10&11...Only the Police and ladybug shared such a classic "forever" design.

Yeah Chad I still have an integrated clip se FRN Delica (my very 1st spydie, I also had a se black FRN Rescue with the integrated clip but the river has it now!) that I'll use on occasion....I have been using the Salt pe more and more b/c I want to sharpen it more often to "harden" the edge! ;) I guess I never fell in love with the pointy edge of the C10/C11 and find the Salt/Pacific Salt/R2 blade design to still be very versatile/ utilitarian but to each his own! :)
I'm all about H1 steel! ;)
