View Full Version : One Year Ago Yesterday
Well, It has been a year since I was cured. Some of you who don't know...I had Oral Cancer and had the tumor removed last October 8th. It has been a hell of a year but I would like to thank a lot of you guys for your support and encouragement. Especially Thom Brogan and Chad(Daywalker), I recieved a lot of emails from you guys and it really kept my spirits up. Thank You!
Thanks to all the other forumites here who have offered their support and well wishes.
So, I am on to year 2 and have started making knives and things are looking up. My son is getting big and hopefully with all the speech threapy, I only have trouble with a few words but the radiation ruined my throat muscles(can't swallow food very well), I will be eating soon. Take Care!!!
Craig
P.S. somebody askes why I had not changed my sig line yet..call me cautious but 80% of reoccurences happen in the first year so now that percent is on my side it is time for something new:)

Positive news CKE! How is your knife doing? Is it a safe queen or do you use it? :)

Hi, Craig. I'm new on the forum so you won't know me, but I'm adding my best wishes and prayers for a continued complete recovery for you. God bless!

CKE, I came back online November of last year. I knew that you were battling something, but didn't think it would be polite to ask what. I'm glad you are recovering (like so many things that people recover from, the best way is in your sig: One day at a Time). This may sound wierd, but, thanks for posting this thread. It is proof that many of our greatest fears can be overcome. :)

Craig,
I too wasn't here when your problem first occurred. I remember hearing about it when I joined (that was about the time someone made a case for your knife I believe), but thought it might be intrusive to ask. I eventually figured it out, and am glad you are in recovery. I truly appreciate the comments and insights you bring to this forum, and will pray for you.
Craig, I continue to include you in my daily prayers, that you recover fully and never have to face cancer again. God bless you and your family.

As everyday is a new begining, we are constantly growing. It has been a blessing to this community to have a member to direct good thoughts at to aid in healing, both emotional and physical. Hope you stick around long enough on the forum(at least) to change your sig line to "I finally beat it".

Aloha Craig,
Sorry, Hell has been keeping me away from this Forum so I apologize for being late on this one. :o
Anyway KnifeBro, you know I never doubted for a moment that you'd beat the crap outta this "thing". ;) This obstacle in your life was merely a stepping stone to greater accomplishments...look at "where, what, and who" you have in your life now!
Right on Craig! You are an inspiration and I am blessed to call you my friend, and brother in knives. :)
Take care and God bless
PS: You HAVE beaten it. ;)

Craig's illness and the response of forumites was a big part of what drew me into this forum last year. Mysterious ways. Glad to hear your update Craig.
Are you completely unable to swallow with a feeding tube and all or is it a texture/moisture issue?

Aloha Simon!
Add to that "hope" a bit o' Faith...and ya got it made my friend! ;)
God bless
I have permanent dry mouth...the radiation burnt my saliva glands so I don't have saliva to help in the swallowing of food. Everything I eat(or what little I eat:)) has to be washed down with water or whatever I happen tobe drinking at the time. Some stuff burns(beer, pop(unless flat), alcohol and some juices) and other stuff just does not taste right.
They say I will get used to it but the radiation did a lot of damage.
Everything in time:)

We need more nice people liking Spyderco knives and we need more people making nice knives (even if they do tease me about sharpening my knives too thin :p ) and, now that you're a steeldust junky, both of those are you, Craig.
Thanks Thom...long time no write:)
