A remember when you call spyderco just ask for a guy named SAL....LOL...
Finding a human at most places means listening to the whole spiel. It's always the last choice - by design.
Heh, heh. 'Ask for a guy named SAL.' :D

Always get a kick out of the line by the Police dispatcher in Demolition Man, "If you would prefer an automated response, press 1 now". Worst thing nowadays is, half the time when I finally do get a human on the line, I can't understand what they're saying.

My fav is Dell Customer Service. You get some buckaroo in India who keeps putting you back in the queue when they can't answer the question put to them. Spent a delightful 25 minutes going around one day until I figured it out.

I'm sure it is cost-effective only if it is accepted and doesn't generate negative feedback or affect sales.

Dell Customer Service is terrible.
One of the reasons I switched to an Apple. It's nice to immediately get a person that you can understand and who seems to like his or her job.
Most big companies just open up huge tech support centers in China or whereever and transfer your call across the ocean.
