I RECENTLY PURCHASED A "MILITARY" WITH STRAIGHT EDGE AT A LOCAL SPYDERCO DEALER AND IT IS THE GREATEST. MY FRIEND LIKED IT SO MUCH HE BOUGHT ONE ON EBAY FOR $42 (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!) THE BLADE IS NOT CPM440V AND THE CLIP IS HELD ON WITH TWO SCREWS NOT THREE AND THE THUMB HOLE IS SMALLER.

Howdy, Reddog, and welcome to the forum!
Are you sure your friend didn't just buy an older version of the Military? It used to have a two screw clip and it also came in ATS-34 steel. Were there any markings on the blade to help identify it?

It should still say SPYDERCO stamped into the tang...
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...
Hi Reddog. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.
As Cerulean mentioned, we did have an earlier model. It's not a bad knife, just an earlier model. Like an automobile, each year brings refinements. An earlier model is often less expensive than a late model.
