I have heard some comments about G10 "drying out" or cracking due to age. Has anyone experienced this before? I know the material is used for electronics as is micarta.

The drying out of G10 imo just means it turns grey. A little oil takes care of that. Never had a crack.

I never had G10 crack on any of my knives including those not made by spyderco........G10 has a tendency to pick up little fragments of your skin which will also turn it grey once attached, a little soap and warm water will bring it back to new...don't mistake this for dryness...Doc :D

What kind of oil would you use when it turns grey? Mineral oil?

I've heard that Armorall or TuffGlide will restore the color of G-10. I haven't tried either (but I just noticed I do need to clean the handle of my blue G-10 Native :o )

Ballistol works very well for restoring G10 too.

Militec worked wonders on my blue g-10 Dodo. I assume it would work on black g-10 as well.

Armor all works great, just give it a day to dry. Don't use compressed air or a hair drier to dry it or you will be back at square one. I've never heard of G-10 "cracking".

Here is the picture I have a cracked G-10. For those of you who might know what kind of knife this is, I'm not digging at the company that makes it at all, it's just an example I had of G-10 that cracked over time. No abuse, or use at all went into this. It was in storage and when I took it out this had happened. The picture is really not very good but if you look closely at the top handle scale there is a crack along the portion that is shown.
