I thought I remembered years ago, thru one of the affiliated companys that a ceramic bladed knife was sold. Just came across a knife that I was told was sold thru Spyderco but would like to confirm this. It's a TaK Fukuta TK01. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about?

Hi jyork
Your right on the money there, the Tak TK01 is a collaboration made with Spyderco in the early days. You are one lucky git, getting your hands on one of these little fellows. congrat!!! Vox.

I remember those. It was a small lockback, with very rounded metal handle. IIRC the handle was made of magnesium. It's been a long time though. Not a bad little knife if you like ceramic folders. Better than the small ceramic Boker, at least aesthetically.

How much history do you want????

Kuzakane Fukuta started importing German hunting knives into Tokyo in 1919. Thirty years later he relocated to Seki City and started manufacturing his own products. Tak is Kuzakane's son and in the 70's got a Loveless, went to study with Loveless, then decided to become a custom maker on his own. The TK01 is one of his designs. The blade is a drop point made of YTZP (Yttria Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystalline), ceramic yet similar to Zirconia diamonds and 9.2 on the MOS scale. It's fired in kilns to temps over 3000 degrees F. Then subjected to Hydro Isostatic Pressure of tremendous tonnage (Hipped). Grinding is done with lapidary equipment. The handle is magnesium alloy with stainless steel pins. Overall length: 4 3/4", Cutting Edge: 1 3/4", Weight: 1 oz. It came with a synthetic suede belt sheath. Like any ceramic blade it you dropped it it could break like glass. MSRP at the time was a hundred bucks. Spyderco doesn't import Fukuta products but someone does, just don't remember who....
