View Full Version : More G-10 handles
I've got to say that the G-10 handle on the Military is about the best I've come across on a folder, tough, light, thin, good grippiness, so how about using it on more spydies.
I don't suppose that you could do a quick trial run on PE- Calypso Jr's as this is the next one on my hit list :D
SS is very good for "dress" knives (like my Delica II), but for harder tasks I find it a bit slick. FRN is ok, but after experiencing G-10, it just doesn't feal the same (??).

The reason G-10 isn't used on more of them is a price point.
Spyderco prides themselves on a priciple of:
Best Quality, Best Price.
On some versions like the Delica for example:
In the states, you can pick it up for about $30, up here it's about $70. By adding G-10 handles, you would make the US pay my price, and then consider the canadian price about 140-150.
Everyone wants G-10, but our favorite models would get too expensive.
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...
Hi Yog. We make quite a few models with G10 scales. It is an "upper end" handle material. I does require a fair amount of machining time the way we make them.
FRN is a strong less expensive handle material. We are now using directional textures to enhance grips. The Native began the trend, the Calypso jr was more aggressive and other FRN designs will be getting directional texturing in the future.

I noticed that a lot of the colaberation models had G-10, but to be honest most of the knives on my current hit list are Spyderco's own models.
I don't "mind" FRN, it's just that my hand has been spoilt with G-10 ;-)).
I don't know about others, but I wouldn't mind paying a little more for G-10 on the standard models. Possibly add it to the existing choices, SS, FRN, G10.
