Forgive me if this has been answered before, but why is the spine on the Calypso jr. shaped the way it is? Kinda like a false edge almost. I'm sure it has some practical purpose. Enlightenment would be appreciated! :)

'Cause it's purty!

I'm doubting it has much of a function at all. If it was a functional attribute I doubt that the Caly Jr would be the only model to have it. I can't say that it's for looks cuz it just doesn't change the look of the knife much so my guess is that designers liked the idea of it for some reason.

I don't know what its intended purpose was, but I like the rounded spine because the rounded spine is more comfortable to hold and carry, and I think it adds something to that needle sharp tip.

I don't think there is much of a funtional argument. I think it looks better (more refined) and feels better (rounder, not as sharp). But the Deacon for example likes to press down on the spine and prefers the "square" spin of the Manix because it gives a bigger surface. Its all personal preference I guess.

Here are the answers I'm thinking about:
1- Looks cleaner on a dress knike... Even read that the Kopa should have this...
2- Less sharp when hand rubs by it when reaching in pocket
3- Less drag , more aerodynamic when cutting stuff like cardboard or dense food like salmon fish...
4- Add more sophistication to the blade...
5- Should be on every knife..., well, most of them...

I've wondered this myself before. I like how it feels, that's all. Seems more elegant. I don't see a real function to it though.

i would also think it would somewhat aid in penetration of thrusting into whatever it is you are thrusting into. :)
i like the look of it.

Spyderco also has a habit of building groups of knives of different sizes with a "family" resemblance. Thinking perhaps the Calypso Jr. was, to some degree, a "big brother" to the Dragonfly, which sports the same flat ground/beveled spine style blade.
