Hello All. Question for those out there who own a salsa. I was looking at these online (even though they have been out a while) and I want to know how it compares to the Dragonfly? I have heard that the compression lock is stronger, however how slick are the Alum handles? Is this a solid EDC knife? or should I just stick w/ my Dragonfly? As always thanks for the advice.

I own a SS Dragonfly and a couple of black handled Salsas. I think with the finger indents on the Salsa coupled with the handle size, the Salsa is better to control than the SS Dragonfly. It's in the "Big Little Knife" catagory also and I think you can do a lot more chores easier with a Salsa because of it. Remember it has the cobrahood too, and the blade is broader.
Watch eBay, you can pick up a Salsa pretty cheap.

Personally I would get the navigator 2 I found salsa to be a tad bit short conscript deep in the palm. Also I took off the clip and where it in jeans change pockets and the like a figure it's small enough for nobody really cited about concealed carry. The other reason I took the clip off for the primary reason I had the Cobrahood My Pocket on Retrieval and Open the Knife up on Me. I Don't Have Navigator 2 but I Did Have Meercat Which Is the Same Footprint and I Was Very Pressed with the Ergonomics.

If pure brutal cutting power is what you're after in a small (almost universally legal) package is what you're after the Salsa fits the bill nicely. You're getting the wire clip and the cobra hood in addition to awesome ergos, a strong lock and a flat ground blade.
However there is no tip to speak of. If you're looking for a splinter picker get a Kiwi. ;)

Hi Kjunx!
The Salsa is a great cutter with a different scope of work than the Dragonfly. By having both knives, you'll be able to accomplish a lot more cutting chores than by having either and without adding too much weight or volume to your pockets (or removing loot from your wallett).
Even though I'm a lefty, I've found that the Salsas that came out before the last generation had a better-placed Compression Lock and felt more secure in my hand (though the black Salsas that came out last are very secure and their Compression Lock also operates in a smooth manner. Their pocket clip is ambidextrous, too, if that matters).

Hey KJ...don't know if you compared 'em side by side so....

It looks to me that the two offer a similar cutting package. If a person is on a budget it might be a good idea to look for a different sized tool to cover a broader range of cutting options. The blade lengths are similar, the ergos are similar. The Salsa offers a better grip and a better lock, the Dragonfly offers a easier carry. It is all a personal decision and everyone has offered good advice...may the best knife win.... :p
Now for some Salsa salad :D

Zen, Thanks ! The pictures really helped size the two (much like the 'in hand' thread). I figured it much smaller than it actually is. But I do like the compression lock, so I might have to pick one up especially if i can get one at a good price.
Thanks everyone .
I wasn't sure of the quality at first ,it not being made in Seki or Golden !
But upon receiving it I find it is superb! A great little(big) knife!
As usual Sal & crew ,outstanding job.
Too bad it's been discontinued.

Whoaa ZH that's Salsa Overload! :p Me thinks the Salsa is much less likely to twist in your hand in a forward grip vs the Dragonfly (i've got the SS one) and for my small hands the ergos of the Salsa make it much more comfortable and stable when using it vs. the Dragonfly.

My problems with salsa are: 1. when you grip the knife in hand, the cutting line of the hand-side part of the edge leans "into" your hand, which IMO is not a comfortable cutting angle. 2. Cobra hood sucks. It helps a little in opening the knife (which is redundant since spyder hole is already superb), and always catches the pocket and open the knife in your pocket. My finger got cut in this way TWICE!
I like the Salsa design. The Salsas that I own have the smoothest opening action of any of my Spydies. Plus they lock up so tight, they have a great wire clip, and they have great ergonomics. However, I am not a big fan of the cobra hood. It seems a bit unnecessary and it tends to catch in my pocket. It does help ease the opening action though.
