View Full Version : Why are the diamond sharpmaker rods so expensive?

Just like the title says, why do they charge so much for the diamond sharpmaker rods? I would love to get some, but I just can't justify spending $100, when my $8 diamond stone taped to a sharpmaker rod works just fine.

no idea, maybe spydercos stuff is proprietary, so they can charge what they wnat for it.

It probably has a bit to do with quality, more to do with ease of manufacture, and a a fair amount to do with the economies of scale. There is a much larger market for bench stones and pocket stones than for an accessory meant to be used with one specific sharpening system. It also is probably easier to manufacture a "brick" than to make something which must fit fairly precisely over something else.
