I finally got one. I've always thought they were cool but never got around to buying one. Walmart made it easy, thanks Sal.

Funny "grandpa" story about the Native...about 5 years ago my kids noticed a clip on their grandpa pocket and asked what it was. Well, he pulls out a brand new SE Native. I have carried a pocket knife for 30 years but I'd never know my dad to carry and asked why. He said he never liked feeling a lump in the bottom of his pocket but the Native was different. He said it was light, tough and could be clipped so it was easy to get to and didn't feel funny. He also said he could cut anything with it.

Today I showed him my new one. He thought it was cool and then pulled out his...totally beat to death, no more serrations, lots of scars, and loose clip. But he said it was the only knife he'll ever carry. ft

Another vote in favour of the Native. Thanks, fishtale.

I am looking to get a Native, but am confused by the different generations, sizes, etc.
Could someone please lay it out for me?

Native I:

Available in Gin-1, 440V, and S30V at various points in production. All PE and CE. FRN Handle, reversible clip

Native II:

AUS-10 PE or CE. Stainless handles. Reversible clip(only one that did, until the Adventura)

Native III:

VG-10 PE or CE. FRN Handles, thicker and more ergonomic than those on the I. Reversible clip.

Hope that helps somewhat, and if I made any mistakes, please feel free to correct me.

I prefer the Native I over the III because the wire clip on the III prevents my index finger from making full contact with the handle (finger is suspended in air where it meets the clip.

On the Native I, The curved portion of the clip allows my finger to be flush with the handle...making a more secure grip.

BTW, as you might guess by my name, Natives are my fav. Mini-Manix is on its way...I think they'll get along just fine :D

I'll get a pic over Thanksgiving.

The blade is so used up, it looks open when it's closed! The point is now about a 1/2 inch up the back of the blade. I offered to grind the kick a bit but he said he'd get around to it sometime. Yikes, talk about an EDC!
