Hey Y'all...

I ordered a Lum Chinese a couple of days ago and it just came today. I suspect that this 'new' knife has been used. My first question... Which way is the clip attached from the factory (tip up or down?) This knife was tip-up, which I dont like. I removed the clip and one of the screw holes is reamed out. Not horribly bad, just enough to really mar the finish around the screw hole. I moved the clip and reattached it. When I tried to open the blade it wouldnt come out. I loosened the screws and could open the knife. I noticed that the nested liner was being pushed out by the screw(s). One of the screws is shorter than the other two. Has anyone else moved the clip and had any problems?

So am I just an incompetent clip-attacher, or should I send it back?

My Lum Chinese came tip-down. I had to switch it myself to tip-up.

Hmmm.. I suspected that.

Thanks a lot Carlos...

Mundele,

The picture on the Spyderco Products page shows it as tip-down.

Take care,

I purchased a numbered set - #104 - and they were tip-down. Untouched by the original collector. When I switched the clips, there was no trouble with the screw length. I also noticed that there was a light film where the clip was placed by the factory. I guessed this was loc-tight or something similar.

Hope this helps,

Matt,

I've moved my clip a couple of times while I was trying to decide which way I liked it best (ended up tip-down). My knife has one screw with a larger head than the other two and from memory it is also longer. In any case when I received the knife it was tip-down and the larger screw was closest to the top of the knife with the smaller ones together below the pivot. I've reassembled it like that and have had no problems with the liner. Hope this helps.

BTW I hope you enjoy your Chinese Folder. IMNSHO it is the nicest production folder on the market.

Clay

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

i got mine with the tip up; i tend to carry that way so i haven't switched it. i agree with clay i think it is a terrific knife the cleanest designed i've ever owned.

Thanks for the replies. The dealer that sold me the knife has contacted Spyderco. Apparently some models shipped with screws that were a bit too long. Mine has two long screws and one short. Spyderco is shipping some sort screws to me. I also figured out that a green sharpie covers small scratches on the green almite pretty well.

I think I am going to really like this knife. It was amazingly sharp out of the box. (I thought I did a pretty good job of sharpening knives, but it seems I have a long long way to go)
