Just bought my first steel handle Spyderco

Just bought a beautiful steel handled Spyderco Worker. P/N C01S. I had shied away from steel preferring the lighter grippier G10 and FRN knives. After buying this I think I am hooked on another niche of Spyderco knives that I had not yet ventured into. Thats OK I guess. Collecting Spyderco's is a harmless addiction that gives me pleasure. They also have intrinsic value as useful tools.

great -- i have liked the steel, titanium and aluminum handles and now i like the G-10 (haven't bought a FRN one yet). great addiction keep on collecting.

Yep, I've just got my first all steel knife too, the Delica II plain edge.

I've had aluminium handles before, but was slightly reluctant about all steel due to peresived slipperiness.
I went with the SS Delica because I knew I would only use this one for light tasks around the office and the SS gave it a slightly dressy look.
After compairing SS and G-10, I will continue to use G-10 handled knives for bigger / tougher jobs, but the SS delica is so nice to the touch I can't put it down, I find myself watching television just opening and closing it without thinking becausse it is so comfortable and soothing. Is that weird or what ?

I really like the steel handled knives too. So far, I own only the s/s Police serrated edge, but it certainly won't be my last stainless Spydie. My friend, who has an s/s Rookie talks about how much he enjoy's the "glide" of the s/s handles into and out of the pocket or waistband. "Gotta' love that glide..."

I intend to buy a stainless Police model w/ plain edge, and a plain edged Delice in s/s as well. The other night, as I sat by the bonfire in my backyard fondling my Police model, I held it up to the firelight and watched the reflection of the flames flicker across it's shiny handle. Good clean fun. Yep, I'm a Spydie "enthusiast" alright, I thought to myself. So Yog, your activities don't sound wierd to me...just therapeutic for the soul.

I have 2 steel handled Spyderco's. My Pegasus I have had for 3 years now. Great little knife. I call it an improved Co-pilot. It's my "church" knife. It is engraved(Engraving done by Brooks Burt) on both sides. very nice.
My second steel handled knife is a Delica II plain edge. I didn't think I would like it, because of the weight, but I made it one of my EDC knives. The handles are smooth and that causes a problem on &quot;quick&quot; draws, but I fixed that by sticking some moleskin on it. Just enough for my thumb to get a purchase. Works great. Someday I may send it off to be engraved, but for now its busy cutting everything. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
The next steel handled knife on my list is a plain edge Dragonfly.

I never cared much for the ss handles either, until I bought a ss harpy. The steel handle is muche gentler on my suit than the g-10 would be, and really does &quot;glide&quot; in and out of the pocket.
However, to reduce the appearance of finger prints on the knife, I removed the clip, and took some 320 grit sandpaper to the handle. The slight brushed texture really looks pretty, and does just what I intended it for. If I buy any more ss handled knives in the future, I'll probably give them the same treatment.

Maybe I'll try your technique for roughening the handles on stainless Spydies. It sounds like a good idea.

Yog -- it is possible that your constant handling/cycling of your knife is an indication of some form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. (OCD)

Then again, I find such behavior to be completely normal. One can have out 2 or three knives with different style locks, and rotate them ever few minutes, so the cycling isn't such a mindless, automatic act. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I bought my first Spyderco (Standard) BECAUSE it had steel handles.

Since then, I have bought Spydies with micarta (glassy and lineny), G10, Titanium, FRN, Aluminum w/ Tufram coating and Aluminum w/ Almite Coating.

Five of my last (7) Spyder acquisitions (dealers, forums and ebay) have been:

SS Harpy
SS Worker
SS Original Worker (PlainEdge)
SS Dragonfly
SS Rescue Jr. (on its way)

I think that the steel edge Spyderco knives will always represent for me (on an even par with the hole) the reason I was attracted to this company in the first place.

I just ordered a plain edge stainless Police model yesterday. It'll be awhile before it arrives, but I'm looking forward to getting this knife. Should go nicely with my serrated stainless Police. Grin.
