Is it a factory second? Whats the blade steel?
ATS-55 blade steel = full production Al handled versions.
440C blade steel = Ti version.

Yep, thats Alum. Ebay has a Ti version up for grabs. A Ti Herbst is VERY rare!

I have 2 Titanium handled factory firsts Spyderco Peter Herbst models. They are both made in Germany. They both have 440c blade steel: And unlike their Aluminum handled counterparts they have really neat neon blue lines on the handle where it is machined. I have only ever physically seen 3 (factory firsts) of these in all my days of Spyder collecting and I have 2 of the 3 I saw. I only know of 2 other Forum Brothers who own one. I seen SFO in the winter of 04 sell a few of them as factory seconds for around $50 each. The only Titanium one besides the one I just won on EBay was last spring and it went for $370. That's all I know. I wish I knew more. I was shocked to find out that Deacon didn't even know much about them  .
If any one knows the complete story on these Titanium models I would love to hear it. JD :spyder: O
